Kids' internet browsing rules

Kids' internet browsing rules

These rules are mutual rules, and should be constructed by both parents and children. Part of what will make them work is the communication between children and parents when the rules are being designed. Some children respond well to written agreed policy; others may require these rules to be posted near the computer, as a reminder. You should do what makes children and parents comfortable.

  • Do not give out any personal information related to your family, friends or yourself; like your full name, home address, father's name, telephone and mobile numbers or etc. Sometimes there are people who watch out for such information, and they can put together a picture of your activities over a period of time. There are many web sites asking for user's information, such as your name, email address, age etc before sign in. Providing such information does not easily disclose your identity to strangers, but if you are required to provide your telephone number, address or some other personal information then do not fill out such forms online without consulting your parents or teachers.
  • Do not open email from someone whom you don't know, as you may download viruses or may come across some contents that can make you upset. Saving your mailbox from these flooded emails is very difficult these days. But not subscribing to unproductive services through giving your email address will lessen the number of unwanted emails that you receive. Infect it's better idea to use a separate email address.
  • Do not agree to meet someone whom you have met through the internet without your parents permission and if they agree then never go alone, but go with a trusted adult.
  • While chatting, be ware when choosing your chat username, not to pick a provocative name as you would be more likely to be treated accordingly. Never respond to threatening or offensive messages.
  • Do not forward your or any of your family member's picture to any unknown person online. Similarly, do not receive any image or file from unknown person online. It can be a virus or some thing that can make you uncomfortable.
  • Do
  • inform your parents if you receive inappropriate emails, someone harasses you online, says something inappropriate, or does anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.

  • Do not say anything online that you wouldn't say in public; infect it is public!. Remember that nothing you type on the net is completely private. Be a good online citizen.
  • Do turn off your computer if you feel uncomfortable or worried about what you are seeing on the screen.
