Praise Remains the Specialty of Angels
(by Nimra Ishtiaq. 12 years old. Class:-8-B, Karachi, Pakistan) Praise remains the specialty of angels,
A simple motivation for their song.
Unfortunately, we require angles,
Living in a world of right and wrong.
A paradise refines the call to praise.
Just being there evokes a love of being,
A perfect passion for unending days,
So beautiful it swallows up all seeing.
Our passions are, perhaps, well, more mature.
Nor are we capable of praise so pure.

There was an odd woman
(by Khalid. 11 years old. Safavi Campus, Karachi, Pakistan)
There was an odd woman
who lived in a shoe.
Which, I think you'll agree,
was a dumb thing to do.
Her husband divorced her.
Her kids ran away.
The shoe smells disgusting.
Why on earth did she stay?

The first time
(by Meezan. 15 years old. Safavi Campus, Karachi, Pakistan)
I met you at my cousin's weeding,
Just before,
It was getting dark,
We were walking by,
Without really knowing,
Just why,
We both tripped over,
The very spread out,
Strange clover,
And fell into the pond,
And from then on,
Shared a special bond,
And being clever,
We found a special friendship,
That would last forever.

Why hugs are important
(by Noreen. 20 years old. Lahore, Pakistan)
There's something in a simple hug,
That always warms the heart.
It welcomes back home,
And makes it easier to part.
A hug is a way to share the joy
And sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you 'cause you're you.
Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your grandma to your neighbor,
Or a cuddly teddy bear.
A hug is an amazing thing--
Its just the perfect way
To show the love we're feeling
But can't find the words to say.
It's how a little hug
Makes everyone feel good;
In every place and language,
It's always understood.
And hugs don't need new equipment,
Special batteries or parts-
Just open your arms
And open your hearts.

Dog's life
(by Usman. 9 years old. Lahore, Pakistan)
There once was a feisty young terrier,
Who liked to bite kids on the derrière.
He'd yip and he'd yap,
Then he'd leap up and snap;
And the fairer the derrière, the merrier.

Falling asleep in school van
(by Tehreem. 7 years old. Karachi, Pakistan)
I fell asleep in school van today,
as I was awfully tired.
I laid my head upon dashboard
and closed my eyes and snored.

My clothes were badly rumpled
and my eyes were glazed and red.

I slept through all the way to my school.
Students woke me up,
as they headed out the door.

Golden heart
(by Samia. 13 years old. Karachi, Pakistan)
A heart of gold will never rust
A true friend will never burst
It is too precious and too fine
Sweeter than the sweetest wine.

First Snowfall
(by Raheem. 21 years old. Karachi, Pakistan)

When the first snow falls
We know it's winter.
Little white butterflies
Glowing in the shadows.
Comfy snow,
Soft snow;
Comfy like a pillow,
Soft like moss.
Like pretty silk
That's very delicate.
Like diamonds
Shining in the air.
A quilt made of cotton
Covering the green:
It's the prettiest thing
That nature gives us.

Our friendship
(by Salma. 18 years old. O/A level campus, Clifton, Karachi, Pakistan)
Like waves upon the sand
Like day and night
Like birds in flight
Like snowflakes when they land
But you and I are something else
Our friendship's here to stay
Like weeds and rocks and dirty socks
It never goes away!

I am happy
(by Jalib. 10 years old. Fujeirah, UAE)
I am happy as a morning bird
I like to swoop down
close to the ground,
then I speed up to the clouds,
past the tree tops.
I still wish I could go higher,
then the sky and my soul
could never fall.

Hope
(by RAMSHA UROOJ. 13 years old from Renaissance Campus, Karachi, Pakistan)
Never lose hope as it has wings,
Which fly in in the sky that blinks....

Hope can get you through any trouble,
And you wont even feel uncomfortable...

Hope makes the world go round....
It makes everything true that is around...

Its a decent way to forget your sorrow,
It will make u feel as free as a sparrow,

So i am telling you now and i am telling you true,
Hold this string cuz' hope has wings.

Apple pie
(by Sadqain. 13 years old. Maymar, Islamabad, Pakistan)
What is the matter with Dane?
He's crying with all his might and main,
And he won't eat his dinner - apple pie again -
What is the matter with Dane?

The American School, Karachi

I am
(by Nazish. 14 years old. Karachi, Pakistan)
I am like a book...
don't just look at my cover...
open my cover, and
read inside of me...
read my heart, and listen
to what it has to say
I am shy, but outspoken
I am passionate, but also sweet
I am tough, but gentle
I am not like many,
I am like one...
I am different..
I am ME.

Internet
(by Akil. 8 years old. Lahore, Pakistan)
I sit around my computer,
I'm switching it on as you can see,
I'm surfing the net,
Open a window, close it,
Chat to someone, open it.

Purple Crow
(by Momal. 7 years old. Islamabad, Pakistan)
I never saw a purple crow,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow
I'd rather see than be one.
