BSEK & AKU-EB SSC, HSSC examinations
Karachi, April 14, 2008: The SSC (Secondary School Certificate) annual examination-2008 for Science and
General groups (private ad regular) will start from April 15 under the
management of Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK).
Under the control
of Aga Khan University Examination Board's (AKU-EB), SSC and HSSC Part-I
examinations will commence from April 14 to May 31, 2008.
Talking to The
Nation on Sunday, BSEK controller of examinations, Syed Javed Iftikhar said
that, under the BSEK, around 300,000 candidates got registered them into the SSC
examination, which is a record number of candidates.
"To control over the
unfair means activities in the examination, the BSEK has formed nearly 50
vigilance teams to inspect the examination centres in the city. On the other
hand, City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has also set up vigilance teams at
town levels to hold the exam transparent, while a special vigilance team under
the supervision of Executive District Officer Fakhar Karim has also been
formed," he said.
He said that the examination forms and fee would be
received until the date of examination, April 15.
"We are going to set up
small examination centres in context of number of students in sensitive areas to
sustain the control over the such centres; most probably the results will be
positive", he said.
He said, "The papers of class X will be conducted in the
morning session, while the papers of the class IX will be taken in the afternoon
from 2pm to 5pm, as the board decided to conduct these examinations
simultaneously. The board has constituted over 460 examination centres across
the city. The examination schedule has already been distributed while the admit
cards of the private candidates has already been sent off to their respective
addresses.
However, a meeting of all the superintendents of the examination
centres will be held on April 10 at 11am for girls and at 2pm for boys' centres
at the Conference Hall of the board, while the centre superintendents have
already been directed to collect the examination material immediately from the
board."
AKU-EB to Hold SSC Exams from April 14
Conversely, over 5,500
candidates are going to be appear in SSC and HSSC Part I examinations to be
commenced from April 14 to May 31, 2008 under the control of Aga Khan University
Examination Board's (AKU-EB).
A total of 5,000 candidates will appear for the
classes of IX and X examinations this year, while around 500 candidates are set
to appear for HSSC, being held for the first time this year, as the Board
commenced preparations for HSSC Part in examinations in 2007.
An official of
the AKU-EB, declined to be named said that all morning sessions would start at
09:30am, while evening sessions are scheduled to be started at 02:30pm.
He
said that SSC practical exams were conducted in groups of 5 candidates of 40
minutes duration each; food and Nutrition and Computer Science Practical's
duration is of 1 hour each, while HSSC Practicals are conducted in groups of 5
candidates of 1 hour and 30 minutes duration each.
Talking about the board
set up and its objective, he said AKU-EB was a Federal Board of Intermediate and
Secondary Education established by Aga Khan University (AKU) in response to
demand from schools for more appropriate school examinations.
AKU-EB was
founded in August 2003 in accordance with Ordinance CXIV of the Government of
Pakistan to offer examination services for both Secondary School Certificate
(SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) throughout Pakistan and
abroad, he said.
"It offers its qualifications both in Urdu and English
medium. AKU-EB's primary purpose is to improve the quality of education by
making examinations of reputable standard more accessible to Pakistani students
and having them increasingly valued by leading higher education institutions in
and outside the country.
AKU-EB offers high quality public examinations
using modern methods of assessment to test achievements within the National
Curriculum of Pakistan so as to have a significant impact on the quality of
education.
AKU-EB only design and offer examinations for the National
Curriculum approved by the Government of Pakistan, and it is the National
Curriculum syllabuses, which will shape classroom activities.
AKU-EB is
intended to serve as a model of internationally recognised good practice, in
order to enhance the country's capacity for educational assessment and tests.
Focusing on this aspect AKU-EB has also developed its own Teachers Training
Programme and has imparted training to more than 2000 teachers throughout the
country. Affiliations with AKU-EB are entirely voluntary. If they so choose,
schools and parents opt for a well-designed set of educational value.
The
Ordinance provides full credit and recognition in Pakistan of the AKU-EB
certificates awarded for achievement up to the higher secondary level of
education or its equivalent.
It provides the option of AKU-EB examinations
to government schools in federally administered territories and cantonments as
well as to private candidates and students in non-government schools in
Pakistan.
The Ordinance also allows AKU-EB to extend its services to
government schools in the provinces, subject to approval by the provincial
governments, and abroad," he added. The Nation
