Education expo | Old exam schedule urged
Education expo: UK varsities' stalls attract students
Rawalpindi, April 04, 2008: Over 60 local and foreign
universities including Britain, US, UAE, Malaysia, Canada, France, Australia and
Ireland on Thursday put up their stalls at a two-day education exhibition.
However, most of the students were seen taking interest in getting
admission in British universities.
Besides these universities, British
High Commission (BHC) and British Council (BC) also set up their stalls and
briefed the students about admission criteria and visa procedures.
The
main areas of interest for the students were management sciences and information
technology.
Sabina, a private schoolteacher said that though
all the universities were the best, studying at British universities was a
different thing.
Ayesha Buksh, another student said, "I want to study
marketing because there is an immense scope for the subject and a never-ending
demand for marketing personnel". The exhibition will conclude today
(Friday). Daily Times
Old exam schedule urged
Rawalpindi: Educationists and parents have urged authorities to restore
the examination schedule to March, says a press release.
Children,
especially tiny tots, are delicate and prone to harsh weather conditions. In the
month of May, perspiration runs right from the top to the toe, so it is cruel
and inhuman to change the schedule, said an educationist Shamim Haider Syed,
principal Grammar Public School. He said there was a time when until recently
school examinations were held in the first week of March and the result was
invariably declared by 31st March - there was a halo of sanctity around 31st of
March.
He said the British had fixed the schedule of examinations and
vacation after lot of deliberations and keeping in view the climatic conditions
of the sub-continent. It is a myopic policy to change the schedule. Is it being
done only to come in line with the O and A Level examinations. Let us be
realistic and revert to our old schedule. Let the school promote their classes
by 31st March. Let the Matric examination be completed in March and that of
Intermediate in April. The News
