No Rangers on permanent basis at KU | UET award
KUTS expresses reservations
Karachi, April 17, 2008: The Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) has said that
retaining the Rangers at the KU on a permanent basis was not desirable.
It suggested improvisation and the implementation of an alternative
security system that could be used as a deterrent in case any students' clash
occurs at the campus.
The idea was floated at a meeting of the KUTS held
on Wednesday under the chair of KUTS President Dr Aqeel Ahmed.
Vice
President KUTS Dr Shakeel Farooqui and Secretary Dr Abid Hasnain and all office
bearers of the KUTS attended the meeting.
The meeting was of the opinion
that the university should acquire the services of some security agencies in the
initial stages, while preparing and grooming its own system of security. The
meeting said that it should be kept in mind that the university is a place of
educated people - both teachers and students - and the security staff must
understand that.
The KUTS also expressed its surprise over the
non-implementation of the decisions that were made during the meeting between
the KU and Sindh Home Secretary that had envisaged the establishment of a sort
of 'Campus Police,' based in the university but kept at a distance from the
academic areas, to take swift and effective action in case of a law and order
situation on the campus. The News
