MA/MSc exam now from July 17
Lahore, April 01, 2008: The Punjab University Examination Department on Monday rescheduled the
date of commencement of MA/MSc, Part-II, Annual Examination 2008. According to a
press statement, the exam will commence from July 17 instead of July 10, 2008.
Meanwhile, the Punjab University Examination Department has issued the schedule
for the submission of admission forms for BCom Part-I and Part-II Annual
Examinations 2008. The forms can be submitted with single fee till April 30
while the last date for submission of admission forms with double fee is May 9.
BCom Part-I exam will commence from June 3 and Part-II exam will commence from
June 4. The News
Communication Studies dept at Gujranwala PU campus
Gujranwala: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid
Kamran on Monday announced the launch of the Department of Communication Studies
at the PU Gujranwala Campus from September next.
The vice-chancellor was
addressing the faculty and students during his first visit to the Gujranwala
Campus. He also announced 20 computers and Rs100,000 cash prize for creative
students and employees of the campus.

Prof Dr Liaqat Ali was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, the
vice-chancellor visited the under-construction building of the Department of
Communication Studies and directed the project director to accomplish the work

Seminar at Lahore School of Economics: 'Good ethics are good for business'
Lahore: Businesses today operate in an era of hyper competition and only
businesses with ethical practices can flourish in the long run.
This was
said at a seminar arranged by the graduating batch of Masters in Business
Administration of the Lahore School of Economics (LSE) on Monday. The seminar
was titled 'Ethics in Sales Management'.
Guest speakers at the seminar
included Khawaja Ahmed Fraz from Reliance Insurance; Liaqat Ali Khan, EFU
Insurance vice president and Imran Afzal, Nimir Chemicals marketing director.
LSE Rector Dr Shahid Amjad Chaudhry and Dean Dr Sohail Zafar were present. Prof
FA Fareedy of LSE also spoke on the occasion.
The seminar dealt with
issues such as the development and expansion of businesses and organised social
institutions. The speakers highlighted the importance of the former three,
saying that they were imperative for Pakistan's development.
Mr Fraz
spoke about the ignorance of the practice of insuring one's life, business
and/or property in Pakistan. He said Pakistanis were not insurance minded and
that they had to get rid of this attitude. He also talked about the importance
of ethics in insurance, saying that insurance companies, their sales forces and
customers needed to be ethical when dealing with the issue.
Mr Khan
talked about the practice across the insurance sector on the grounds of business
ethics. His presentation revolved mainly around what insurance was and how the
Pakistani government had come to regulate it. He said that the law made it
mandatory for several types of insurances. He gave car insurance as an example,
saying that someone driving an un-insured car was breaking the law.
Mr
Afzal educated the audience on safety standards across Pakistan's chemical
industry and on what was being done and what else was needed to further improve
it.
The speakers said corruption was widespread and accepted in Pakistani
society as 'a normal way of life'. They said that corruption was complex and
that there was no quick fix to it. They said that eradicating corruption from
Pakistani society would take at least three to four generations and that the
people's thought processes had to be shaped for such a turnaround.
They
said that the reason behind corruption was the lack of financial security. "This
can be resolved by insurance, banking and financial and capital markets
developing and implementing an ethical code of conduct, thus promoting and
providing financial security to people. If people are protected against untimely
death and other unseen disasters, health care, security at old age and savings
for children's education and marriages, their greed for illegal gratification
will decrease considerably," they added.
They said that many people were
of the view that business and ethics did not go together because adhering to
ethical practices did not accrue profits. "However, real life examples have
shown that business ethics do create high returns for companies," they
added.
Prof Fareedy ended the seminar by saying, "Quality is highly
dependent upon the inputs that one feeds into a business. For example, if inputs
to a poultry farm are faulty, the produce that is chicken will also be faulty
for consumer consumption. Ethical business practices have a crucial concern for
business-to-business (B2B) selling businesses. Ensuring the highest conduct of
corporate behaviour and instilling this in employees can translate into highly
ethical practices, which businesses can look at as a core competency. Therefore,
good ethics are good for business, he added.
Towards the end of the
seminar MBA students presented two of their top case writings concerning ethics
- which they had developed themselves – to the audience followed by a prize
distribution ceremony of those students whose case writings were amongst the top
