Students panic after terror threat at 2 co-ed universities. Students evacuated from campuses, security deployed
Lahore: A situation of panic and uncertainty was created among the students of two local co-educational
universities, after their administrations received threats of terrorist attacks,
it was learnt on Thursday. One of the universities had been
receiving threats via phone calls and letters for several days, but on Thursday,
an alleged terrorist threatened to blow up the university's buildings if the
campus was not evacuated by 1pm. After the threat, Rangers and security
personnel were deployed at one gate while the other gate was locked. Seeing the
security forces present outside their universities, the students panicked and
immediately called their homes to be picked on an emergency basis. The
university's buses also provided the students with pick and drop services. The
university was successfully evacuated by 1pm and only the security personnel
maintained their positions. The university announced three holidays to
prepare a comprehensive security plan, including installation of security
cameras and recruitment of more guards, a student of the university said. Another university on the same road also received similar threats
and evacuated the students from the university's campus well ahead of the
scheduled time. The classes of both the universities were adversely
