8th class student challenges changes in education policy
Islamabad: An 8th class student on Tuesday filed a petition with Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the
Education Policy 2008-09. In her petition, Saman Saida complained that
frequent changes in education policy had adversely affected her education. She
moved the petition through her guardian Rizwan Ahmed Khokhar. Saman said
she was in 7th class when the authorities introduced Education Policy 2007-08 in
which the academic year was extended and she had to remain in the same class for
some extra months. In 2008-09, the educational year was again rescheduled
and she was deprived of completing one year in 8th class. She said soon after
joining the 8th class session, she had to go on summer vacations and after three
months the session restarted. The educational period was reduced but the
vacation period remained intact, she said. The student claimed that after
promulgation of policy in March this year she failed to qualify for science
group because of single subject of mathematics, as she was not able to secure 55
percent marks. She said changes in education policy were affecting the
career of a large number of students. Officers concerned of Ministry of
Education and educational institutions have been made respondents in the
case. Daily Times
