FBISE HSSC annual examination 2010 schedule

HSSC exams from 28th
Islamabad, Apr 20: The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) will conduct Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) annual examination 2010 from April 28.

Roll number slips of the regular candidates appearing in the said examination have been dispatched to their concerned institutions.

Whereas the ex/private candidates will receive their slips at the addresses given by them in the admission forms, said a news release issued here.

In case, the roll no slip is not received by any candidates, he or she should immediately contact Director One Window on phone number: 051-9250606, Deputy Controller of Examinations (HSSC Conduct) on 051-9250619, Assistant Controller of Examinations (HSSC Conduct) on 051-9250641 or Assistant Secretary (One Window Cell) on 051-9250651. IIUI protests: IJT now turns to victimising female students
Islamabad: International Islamic University observed a complete strike on Monday in protest against physical torture and public humiliation of a female student at the hands of Islami Jamiat Tuleba (IJT).

A group of female students of SMS Department was taking snaps in the Engineering Block when Abdullah, an activist of IJT, accompanied by others, came there to tell them that photography is haram. Eyewitnesses said Abdullah did not stayed content with just preaching but went ahead to beat the girl who was taking snaps up badly, as if delivering instant justice.

University sources said it was not the first time that Abdulah subjected a woman to humiliation; he had done it twice in the past but got away with it. Once he hit two girls in library and then tried to scare a female teacher out of a seminar.

All students parties sans IJT have put up their single demand before the university administration: send Abdullah out of campus.

Sources said family of the victimized girl don't want to publicize the event as it will amount to rubbing salt in their wounds. Helpless, as any common citizens would have been in such a situation, they are in front of the beards, the sources said.

Though IJT has erected banners distancing themselves from Abdullah, they did not disown him to join all other parties in protest against the deed.

A senior faculty member said there has been a vacuum created in the education sector and rogue elements like IJT just sneak into this vacuum.

Another said now the government policy is against the IJT, so it is letting all student parties to get together against it. He feared that such acts may fail to eliminate IJT which has now taken roots. Daily times

IIUI boys show off after girls
Islamabad: Last week girl students of the International Islamic University celebrated the silver jubilee of their alma mater. Now the boys are at it, trying to outdo the girls in their contribution to the institution's 22nd cultural festival.

The boys proved equal with their good taste and imagination in presenting the native dresses of 42 countries, putting up a dazzling show at the International Islamic University Islamabad's (IIUI's) Faisal Mosque campus on Monday.

IIUI Rector Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik and President Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui welcomed the guests at the ceremony that was also attended by two vice-presidents, Dr Zafar Ishaq Ansari and Parveen Qadir Agha.

Stalls assembled by foreign students' portrayed natural scenes and grandeur of their respective countries. However, their beauty was matched by kiosks put up by Pakistani students that featured breathtaking beauty of Kashmir valley, the high elevation of Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as other provinces of Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, the rector showered praise on students for their hard work. He said the array of beautiful costumes of each country had won his heart, and also those of the residents of the capital city. President Dr Siddiqui described the event as a kind of international cultural week that established the cultural strength of the IIUI students.

"They bring with them the beautiful aspects of their home country in the paintings, pictures, artefacts and food to highlight the fascinating culture of their homeland," he said.

Dr Siddiqui said the spirit of cultural integration was equally shared by the faculty and scholars of the university to discover the potential of their students and also to note the kind of discipline the students learn through inter-personal skill of their peers.

He drew attention to the fact that the civil society also participates in these activities which are also aired on IIU and Dawah Academy broadcast channels, and broadcast by Syed Muzammil Hussain. Dawn

NUST business school inaugurated
Islamabad: The inauguration ceremony of the NUST Business School block was held in the H-12 campus of the National University of Sciences and Technology here on Monday.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh who was the chief guest of the occasion said that he was proud to be on NUST's campus but wished Pakistan to have more of such institutions. He said that the people of this country were capable of doing big things if provided with true leadership, guidance and motivation.

Analysing Pakistan's current state of affairs, he recalled that after the World War II, most countries of the world were in dire straits just like today's Pakistan. The countries that were able to focus on human development, finding ways of being competitive and able to sell their products to other parts of the world, and those with lesser reliance on government raced ahead towards a prosperous future while those who didn't make any effort towards these three essential points were left behind.

He lamented the fact that while Asia was enjoying a period of boom with the Asian Tigers in the making, Pakistan was stuck with protectionist policies that created roadblocks to economic development.
