Education minister's wife made additional education secretary
Karachi, April 27: The Government of Sindh has appointed the wife of Senior Education Minister
Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Shahnaz Mazhar, as additional secretary education. A
notification to this effect was issued by Services and General
Administration and Coordination Department. The notification stated that
Shahnaz Mazhar has been appointed as additional secretary education for
academic on a vacant seat. Sources revealed that when the
PPP came into power in 2008, Shahnaz , who was an assistant lecturer at
the time, was given an out of turn promotion from Grade 17 to Grade19.
Subsequently, she was transferred and posted at the Pakistan High
Commission in England as counselor for welfare. Pir
Mazhar's spokesperson Zafar told The News that after serving three years
at the Pakistan High Commission in UK, Shahnaz Mazhar returned to the
country, where, after reporting to the Education Department Sindh, she
was made additional secretary education academic and training on a
vacant post. The spokesperson regretted that a section of
the media was twisting the facts by reporting a four-year-old case of
alleged victimisation. Media reports claimed that when Ms
Shahnaz Mazhar was an assistant lecturer at the Lyari Degree Girls
College, she was given show cause notice by Principal Perveen Nazeer
Soomro over extended absence. The reports claimed that
when the PPP came into power, Principal Soomro was transferred to
Benazirabad (formerly Nawabshah) as an act of victimisation. She was
disheartened by the alleged victimisation, and subsequently filed for an

Protest disrupts classes at KU
Karachi: Classes on the Karachi University campus were
suspended on Thursday when members of the KU Employees Welfare
Association staged a protest demonstration outside the administration
block. They were demanding action against the student activists who had
allegedly beaten up a staff member, Waheed, after a clash between two
student groups on Wednesday. The association has urged the
vice-chancellor to order an investigation into the incident. ppi
