Lahore tops exam cheating charts
LAHORE, 28 April(Daily Times): As many as
119 cheating cases and 16 impersonation cases were registered by the eight
examination boards of the province during the recently held Secondary School
Certificate (Matriculation) Annual Examination 2007.
An Education
Department (ED) official said that a report prepared by the
department's special monitoring cell revealed that the highest number of cases
of candidates using unfair means were registered by the Board of Intermediate
& Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore. The Lahore board detected 61 such cases
during the matriculation examination administered at various examination centers
set up across the city. The board had also registered five cases of
impersonation, he added.
According to the report, the ED official said
BISE Multan registered 12 cases of candidates using unfair means during the
examination, the Faisalabad board registered 11, Gujranwala 10, Bahawalpur 9,
Dera Ghazi Khan 8, Rawalpindi 5 and Sargodha 3.
The ED official said that
the Lahore and Faisalabad boards detected the highest number of impersonation
incidents, with each board registering five cases. The Multan and Rawalpindi
boards registered two cases of impersonation, while the Dera Ghazi Khan and
Gujranwala boards registered one case each. The Bhawalpur and Sargodha Boards
reported no cases of impersonation.
ED special
monitoring cell convenor Muhammad Akram Chaudhary said 68 cases of impersonation
and cheating were registered during last year's matriculation exam. This figure
had almost doubled in this year's exam, jumping to 135 cases. Akram attributed
the rise in statistics to an improved vigilance and monitoring system. He said
special measures were taken by the department to catch cheaters this year. He
added that not a single case of disruption, violence or rowdiness was registered
in Punjab during this year's exam.
The ED official said that this year
BISE set up 2,538 centers in the province, administering the matriculation exam
to 816,513 candidates.
