Jamia Ashrafia giving 'modern education'
LAHORE, April 30(Daily Times): Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Sunday that students at Jamia
Ashrafia were learning to use the computer and were being provided religious and
modern education. He also said his family and Jamia Ashrafia went back many
decades.
He told a conference organised to celebrate 60 years of Jamia
Ashrafia that the madrassa had churned out good Muslims who were above sectarian
prejudices and political affiliations.
He also said the Punjab government
was constructing a Seerat Academy and Quran Complex on 42 kanals in the city. He
said students would be able to get PhDs in Islamic teachings and Seerat (ways of
Prophet Muhammad [PBUH]) studies. He said clerics had played an important role
in keeping peace during Muharram. He thanked clerics at the conference for being
present on the occasion and urged them to play their role in telling people
about the real Islam. He said Islam's image could not improve without their
help. Elahi denounced the bombing of Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao's convoy in
Charsadda, saying terrorists were not only destroying the lives of innocent
people, but were giving Islam a bad name.
He said Islam did not allow
anyone to force his or her ideas on people. He said steps taken by the Punjab
government to promote sectarian harmony had yielded good results and conflict
been various sects had been eliminated.
