Loadshedding mars teaching, lab works at KU
Karachi, April 25(The News): The ongoing frequent power outage and fluctuation in city is also marring the
educational and research activities at the University of Karachi which is
running about 40 departments with over 7,000 students.
The Dean Faculty
of Science, Dr Viqaruddin Ahmad said on Saturday that the loadshedding and three
to four-hour interruptions in power supply badly affected teaching in the
Campus, particularly in the science subjects making in difficult for teachers
and students to complete their courses of study and practical training, he
added.
Dr Viqar mentioned that in past KESC did not apply loadshedding in
the case of the university. He said it was becoming difficult to keep
laboratories in order as some species and tissue cultures as well as certain
chemicals were also on stake due to inactivity of airconditioning
system.
The Dean urged the management of KESC to exempt the university
from any load-shedding in better interest of students and higher
education.
Another teacher said that due to outage of power some of the
practical examinations were affected. He added that officially the KESC
maintained that there was not loadshedding but the University, like other parts
of the city, suffered due to the unannounced loadsheddding. Heads of some other
institutions including universities and colleges have complained about the
intermittent supply of power in their respective institutions.
