ZMU convocation: Degrees conferred on 107 graduates
Karachi, 27 April(The News): Scores of black academic hoods were tossed in the air as soon as the Governor
called the convocation closed after some 107 graduates of the Ziauddin Medical
University were conferred Bachelors and Masters Degrees at its fifth convocation
The Governor, Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad was the chief guest. Others
present included Dr. Asim Hussain and Dr. Shahid Hussain of the Ziauddin
University, Sharifuddin Pirzada, Anwar Mehmood, Federal Secretary for
Information and Broadcast, Dr. Noshad Sheikh, Provincial Secretary for Health,
Mr. Majyd Aziz, health experts graduating students, their parents, and notables
of the city.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that doctors
must consider themselves real service providers a good source of knowledge which
in his case are healing and caring.
Dr Ebad urged the graduating doctors
not to consider themselves learned people form now, rather learning people. He
further stressed the need for incorporating issues which affect people's lives
in addition to the specific theme-related education in the all fields of medical
curricula. The governor also announced an award of Rs25,000 for the gold medal
winning students.
The Federal Secretary for Information, the keynote
speaker, said that there lay a major challenge for health care providers of
mitigating the disease burden on the community and the national exchequer.
He also said that he felt proud to be the part of an occasion where
doctors are graduating as Pakistan is famous for producing one of the best
doctors and nurses across the world.
He congratulated the students for
their achievements and wished them good luck for future.
