Future of Rawalpindi male students at stake
Rawalpindi: The shortage of government colleges for boys in Rawalpindi has
put at stake the future of hundreds of students who have applied for admissions
in intermediate and graduation programmes this year.
There are only four
colleges for boys in Rawalpindi, and every year a large number of students
belonging to middle and lower-middle income groups are deprived of admissions,
as they don't qualify for the admissions on merit.
These colleges have
already displayed two merit lists and hundreds of students are fearing that they
would be left high and dry with no option but to appear as private candidate in
intermediate and graduation examination next year, if their names do not come in
merit lists.
Adil Mehmood, a student while going through the second
merit list of Gordon College, Thursday said, "I have not been lucky
enough this time around. If my name does not come in third list than I will have
no option but to appear in next year's exam, as a private candidate. I can't
afford private colleges and even don't want to abandon my education."
The parents are also highly disturbed, as they are worried about the
future of their children and have demanded of government to pay attention to the
education sector.
Shahida Parveen, mother of a
student, said "I am very upset because it seems to me that the name of my son
will not come in the merit list. The government should allocate special quota
for the poor and needy students in all government colleges."
Similarly, a
large number of students were waiting outside Asghar Mall College, Government
Hashmat Ali College and Degree College Satellite Town for the next merit list.
