Intermediate admission date at Karachi Colleges extended
Class XI placement date extended
Karachi, Aug 27, 2008: The admission committee, set up under the Centralized
Admission Policy (CAP) for placement of Matric students in the city's government
colleges, has extended the last date for the submission of the placement forms
by two days. A member of the CAP committee said on Tuesday that the authorized
bank branches would now accept the forms till Aug 28.
He said that the
branches would also continue to issue the placement forms till the same
date.
Around 87,000 forms have already been issued by the 42 authorized
branches across the city. More than 67,000 forms were submitted by candidates
till Monday evening.
Meanwhile, former director of colleges Prof Haroon
Raheed has called for an inquiry into the resignation of human resource director
in the directorate-general (colleges), Prof Deedar Murtaza, from the office of
secretary-cum-member of the CAP committee.
Prof Murtaza's resignation at
a time when the committee had a gigantic job to accomplish had raised many
questions which ought to be answered, he said, pointing out that it was beyond
anyone's comprehension that more than 30 people had been accommodated in the
admission committee instead of a maximum of 15 as envisaged in the policy. Dawn

Inquiry sought into irregularities of SAU VC
Hyderabad: Representatives of the Forum for the Restoration of Responsible
Governance in Universities and Restoration of Academic Standards in Sindh here
on Tuesday demanded the removal of the vice-chancellor of the Sindh Agriculture
University (SAU), Tandojam, and the constitution of a high-level inquiry
committee to probe into the administrative and financial
irregularities.
Forum chairman and former SAU professor Amir Ali Qadri,
along with Professor Badar Soomro, Zamir Khan, Yaqoob Chandio and others made
this demand while addressing a news conference at the Hyderabad Press
Club.
They accused SAU VC Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaikh of irregularities and
poor performance of the university. They said it was not only at the SAU that Dr
Shaikh came out as a failure. Prior to this, they claimed, he remained totally
unsuccessful at the Shah Latif University, Khairpur, and was also ousted from
the Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad.
They said it was a shameful
situation that the Higher Education Commission had put the SAU at the bottom as
it was ranked 4th out of the four agriculture universities in the country during
the tenure of Dr Shaikh. They claimed that family members and relatives were
being forwarded in appointments and more than 200 appointments had been allowed
on the basis of nepotism and favouritism and sons, daughters and relatives of
his sycophants were appointed.
They said neither any research work was
being carried out in the university nor any equipment had been provided to its
laboratories. They said a huge amount was transferred to the Tandojam branch of
the UBL to create difficulties for staff and the students despite the fact that
an HBL branch already existed in the campus. They added that over Rs 200 million
had been sanctioned directly or indirectly to Dr Saghir Shaikh, officially
identified as a nephew but was actually the elder son of Dr Bashir
Shaikh.
They demanded that the salary of employees should be released
without any further delay and a high-level committee should be formed to probe
into the irregularities. Representation of the forum should also be allowed in
the committee, they added.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Badar
Soomro demanded that all the retired government employees who were working in
various universities in Sindh should be removed from their posts
immediately. The News
