KU to hold 'Students Week' with changes
Karachi, Aug 05, 2008: Karachi University has decided to observe students' week, engaging youths in extracurricular healthy activities, at its campus from August 15 to 20, 2008 with some initial but important administrative changes to prevent the occasion from any untoward situation.

All events will be held on departmental bases. It if worthy of note that chairpersons of departments will be responsible for any untoward situation if it occurs some troublesome against peaceful atmosphere or Students' political wings may face trouble in context of organizing their programmes as per the current KU rules and regulations for students' week, as the students' wing used to commit participating in extracurricular activities, following their political agenda, The Nation has learned.

This year, students' week will be held under the management of the KU departments, while last year such activities were organized on centralized basis under the management of the KU Students' Adviser Office, KU Campus Officer Dr Khalid Iraqi said expressing his views on Monday to The Nation.

Now the students will not be allowed to take permission with the endorsement of their department's chairperson from the KU Students' Adviser Office. The permission for any programme will only be issued to chairperson of the department. In this regard, each department will be funded Rs 2500 by the KU administration. Some healthy activities, including Qirat and Naat competition, English and Urdu debate competition, seminars, workshop, conference, poetry competition, quiz programms, picture and photography competition, cooking competition and etc are scheduled to be held as per the code of conduct of the KU.

Admission for law
Karachi University has announced that admissions to LLB Part-I and LLM (Previous) classes for the session 2008 and 2009 in the KU affiliated Law Colleges will start from August 4 to September 5 2008.

As per KU notification issued on Monday, admissions in the respective colleges will be allowed subject to eligibility for admission to the said class and availability of seats as per allocation by the university. The students who have passed examination from any institution other than KU equivalent to the pre-requisite, will have to submit the equivalence certificate from the Varsity at the time of admission. The university will not be responsible for any ineligible admission given by the college.

Notification issued
Karachi University has notified to all candidates of B Com (Part-I, II and) External Annual Examinations 2007-9 held I 2008), that their marks sheets have already been dispatched with their provided residential addresses.

According to notification issued on Monday, Such candidates who have not yet received their marks sheets are directed to contact to the external unit of examination department at Silver Jubilee Gate, Room No 1 from 4 to 7 August 2008 during office hours for issuance of the duplicate marks sheets. Photocopy of admit card and registration card will be required for the issuance of the duplicate marks sheets. The Nation

KU offers scholarships
The University of Karachi has invited applications for merit-cum-need scholarships 2008.

A spokesman for the institution said on Monday that the scholarships were being offered to the students of BS Honours/ Masters/ Pharmacy who fulfilled the prescribed criteria.

The applicants should have cleared all courses and first semester of 2008 with overall 60 per cent marks. The form should be submitted to the chairpersons of the departments by Aug 30.

Meanwhile, the university has extended the date for the submission of enrolment forms and fee for BA, BSc and BCom academic session 2007-08. The candidates may submit their enrolment forms with a late fee of Rs650 till Aug 25, 2008. Dawn
