KU results valid only 5yrs
Karachi, Aug 12, 2008: The University of Karachi (KU) announced on Monday that
its results are valid for all examinations held by the examination department,
except for the BDS and MBBS, for five years only.
In future, the results
of all students whose passing duration exceeds five years will be cancelled.
However, a last chance to all students, irrespective of their duration, will be
given in the 2008 examination.

Karachi University BEd and MEd Examinations schedule
Karachi: KU informed candidates of affiliated colleges that annual examinations 2008 of BEd and MEd
(Morning, Evening) will start from August 16, 2008.
The candidates have
been asked to collect their admit cards and examination schedule from their
respective colleges, during office hours.
KU Sports Gala: KU Faculties Inter-Departmental Sports Gala 2008 will begin with an opening hockey match
between VC-Eleven and Ex-Olympians at KU's hockey ground, on Tuesday August 12.
KU radio to run Aug 14 transmission
Karachi: Campus Radio under the Mass Communication department will run
special transmission on the occasion of Independence Day from 11.00 am to 4.00
pm. The programmes will include a discussion programme featuring Prof. Zakariya
Sajid and Prof. Nasir Siberia. Meanwhile, Dr Jaffar Ahmed of the Pakistan Study
Centre, KU will deliver a lecture on 'The Economic Factors of the Pakistan

KU 'blunder' 2,000 candidates declared absent in BCom results
Karachi: The examination department of the Karachi University (KU) has declared
2,000 students absent in results of BCom Part-I/Part-II Annual Examinations 2007
mistakenly, learnt on Monday.
The inefficiency of the
department has perturbed large number of candidates as they found themselves
absent in results, a well-placed source in the department said.
"The
examination department is facing lot of pressure from these candidates. Teachers
have not performed their job properly, for which students suffered who appeared
in the BCom Part-I/Part-II Annual Examinations 2007. According to statistics, a
total of 8,766 candidates got them registered into the exams out of which 8,146
appeared. As many as 357 candidates had secured first division, 1646 second
while 31 candidates passed with third division with 24.96 pass percentage," he
said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the department is already under
criticism for producing the degree results with massive paper-checking errors,
causing difficulties for hundreds of degree students who are participating in
different degree examinations of BA, BCom and BSc. The Nation

8th ITCN Asia International Exhibition & Conferences commences
Karachi: The 8th ITCN Asia 2008 International Exhibition and Conferences
commenced on Monday at Karachi Expo Centre. The City Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa
Kamal, performed the inauguration of the Event.
Sindh Minister for Information
Technology, Muhammad Raza Haroon, and Federal Secretary IT, Hifz-ur-Rehman,
Sikandar Naqvi, SEVP, PTCL, Captain M. Ejaz Haroon, Managing Director, Pakistan
International Airlines, Kamran Y. Mirza, Chairman, EPZA, Talib Baloch, Managing
Director, PSEB, were present at the Inauguration Ceremony. Other Foreign
Delegates also accompanied the chief guest.
The official launch of 'Command
and Control System' also took place at the CDGK Pavilion, which has been set up
at 8th ITCN Asia Exhibition and Conferences.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed
Mustafa Kamal, said that the ITCN gives a hope that encourages us to believe
that Karachi has the potential to help Pakistan rise above all the
difficulties.
He said that a common man can
relate to this event in a way that the vendors who come here develop contacts
with the corporate sector, their products bought, technology installed, business
increased and provides the common man with job opportunities, thus the cycle
continues in favor of Pakistan.
The Nazim stated that the CDGK has
always been a strong supporter to assist the private sector acting as a catalyst
to boost trade here.
He said that the holding ITCN in
Karachi makes this city visible to the whole world and the actual activities of
Pakistan covered around the world.
Hifz-ur-Rehman, Federal Secretary
for Information Technology, inaugurated the PSEB Pavilion at the 8th
ITCN Asia 2008 complimenting PSEB's efforts for taking the initiative every
year.
This year, PSEB has sponsored the
participation of thirteen member IT companies showcasing their capabilities and
develop business contact.
As a special element of this
year's event, PSEB has also co-organized a conference on Information Security,
E- Banking Call Centers and Business Process Outsourcing, where influential
speakers and experts from across Pakistan will be collaborating views on the
latest global developments and trends in the respective fields and identify
immense potential available in Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
sector of Pakistan.
Commenting at the event, Secretary
IT and Telecom added, 'Such events help the IT Industry in fostering
relationships with prospective investors and foreign delegates and promoting the
IT Industry on a larger scale'.
There are approximately 110
Foreign Delegates and 125 Exhibitors including 35 Foreign Exhibitors from 22
Countries.
The total number of registered
visitors for ITCN Asia 2008 is 47,000.
The 8th ITCN Asia
Exhibition is designed to be one-stop meeting place for trade matching of the
global and regional IT players with decision-makers from business and government
sector.
It provides an opportunity to
converge, network and interact with the executive management eager to implement
IT for economic growth of Pakistan and other countries.

Hamdard Uni, Valika Hospital revise deal
Karachi: Sindh Minister of Labour and SESSI Governing Body
Chairman Amir Nawab Khan said that the Kulsoom Bai Valika Social Security SITE
is a quality hospital that has all the facilities and departments that are
necessary for a standard teaching hospital.
He stated this while
addressing a meeting with a delegation from the Hamdard University of Medicine
(HUM), led by its Vice-Chancellor Dr Nasim A. Khan on Monday. SESSI
Vice-Commissioner Aftab Ahmed Khatri, SESSI Medical Advisor Dr Shah Mohammed
Nonari and M.S. Valika Hospital were also present.
The meeting took note
of the examination arrangements at Valika hospital for HUM students, and
carefully examined the endorsed agreement for the affiliation. Both
organizations agreed to ensure implementation of all provisions of the
agreement.
The meeting also noted the provisions that could not be
implemented in the past, and it was agreed in principle to add them in the
endorsed agreement with more explanation.
Nawab Khan emphasised upon
University experts to do their part in improving medical services, while
consultants and doctors of the Valika Hospital were told that they will get full
cooperation from the Hamdard University.
The Hamdard College of Medicines
and Dentistry has been affiliated with the Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital since
October 2003 and the term is expiring in October 2008. App

SU teacher to get award
Hyderabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) announced the
Best Teacher Award to Prof Dr Pervez Ahmed, faculty and research scholar, Sindh
Development Studies Centre of the Sindh University.
The HEC in a
communication informed the Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui about the award
consisting of a certificate and cash prize of Rs100,000.
The HEC while
congratulating the teacher invited him to the ceremony scheduled for August 13
in Islamabad.
The award will be conferred upon the scholar by Chairman
HEC, Prof Dr Attaur Rehman and the function will be attended by vice chancellors
