University of Karachi Blues | HSC Left-over practical exams

Karachi University Blues
Karachi, Aug 01, 2008: Getting a proper education is essential but travelling within the University of Karachi (UoK) has become a nuisance.

The distance between the new Mass Communication department and the main entrance is awfully long. Previously, it was not an obstacle to reach to the old department as one could be accompanied by other students belonging to close-by departments. However, now a lot of time is wasted while walking towards the Mass Communication department.

At night when I get off from University around 8.40pm, I am usually scared of being mugged due to the darkness.

A few days back the transporters held a successive wheel-jam strike, due to which the students dealt with conveyance issues. When I called up the transport office (UoK), and asked then as to why they did not provide us transport for that particular day, they simple replied by saying that we had orders from our authorities not to run the points. There was a thin attendance on that day while me and another student contributed jointly by hiring a rickshaw to the varsity. After the transporters' strike, fares were increased by the University administration without any notification. I request the concerned authorities to clarify and pacify their reasons.

Another problem which I face at the University at night is that some of the roads are not lit-up properly. I want to suggest to the concerned authorities to install the street lights and make sure they're lit-up for the students' convenience. I hope concerned authorities would pay heed immediately to solve these problems. Usman Ahmed emailed from Clifton
