Karachi University BA, BSc and BCom exam forms date
KU extends exam forms submission date
Karachi, Aug 16, 2008: The University of Karachi (KU) has extended the date for the submission of
examination forms and fees of regular students of BA, BSc and BCom (fresh and
failures) up to August 25.
Examinations forms and fee of BA, BCom, BOL
and BSc (Improvement of Division) External Annual Examinations-2008 of the KU
will be accepted from August 20 to September 9.
The KU has notified that
the last chance will be provided in the annual examination 2008 to the graduate
and postgraduate students having enrolment /registration of 2002 and earlier.
Moreover, in all future examinations (2009 and later), the students will
be required to appear in the examinations according to the new syllabus and none
of the previous marks will be carried over. They will be treated as fresh
candidates but their previous enrolment/registration will
continue.
Meanwhile, the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and
Technology will be celebrating the death anniversary of Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul
Haque on Saturday (today). The university will remain closed on Monday on the
occasion of Shab-e-Baraat.

Education boards' powers to be transferred to CM
Karachi: The Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a bill regarding the
Secondary and Intermediate education boards, according to which the powers of
the controlling authority, vested in Governor (under the Sindh Boards of
Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance-1972), would be transferred to
the Chief Minister Sindh, who is the Chief Executive of the
province.
Provincial Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq said that
this was an extremely important bill that would bring improvement in the
educational standard, particularly in the examination process. Pointing out that
this amendment had been prevented in Sindh while the Punjab Assembly had made
the amendment much earlier, he said it was necessary to adopt one pattern in all
the provinces.
He said the provincial government was being blamed
regarding unjust examination processes whereas the board was not under the
control of provincial government. The house consented that the bill was
expedient in view of the restoration of democracy in the province. The News

HEC Best teacher of 2007
Hyderabad: Professor (Dr) Sagheer Ahmed Shaikh of Institute of
Food Sciences and Technology of Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam has been
awarded the best teacher cash award of Rs100,000 for the year 2007 by the Higher
Education Commission of Pakistan.
The award was conferred on Professor
Shaikh by HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman at a ceremony held in Islamabad on
Wednesday.

BISE Hyderabad officials accused of corruption
Hyderabad: A group of students belonging to the Jeay Sindh
Students Federation-organising committee and the Basheer Qureshi group staged a
protest demonstration and set up a hunger strike camp outside the press club on
Wednesday to protest against alleged corruption of secretary and the controller
of examinations of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education
Hyderabad.
Talking to journalists, JSSF leaders and others said that both
the secretary and the controller were working on contract and they were fleecing
students on one or other pretext.
The protesters alleged that these
officers had appointed their 'agents' to extort money from poor students.They
demanded immediate removal of corrupt officials and threatened to go on hunger
strike unto death at a camp outside the press club from August 16 if their
demand was not accepted. Dawn
