"I have been reading the comments of most of the students in response to the failing grades they received on their Punjab University English exams. I sympathize with most of the students. The education system in Pakistan is definitely sluggish and results take long to be released. The markers and the system is definitely flawed. Point taken! However, the caliber of English as expressed by most of you students here is unfortunately pathetic. The sentence structure is really fragmented. The grammar in general in regards to periods, commas and colons are being misused at the wrong places. In addition, the tenses are being used without second-thought as to what space and time the person wants to make a posting in the forum entry. Communication skills are essential for English degrees. Written skills and effective communication on paper is what gets most students marks. Rather than blaming the system for its inconsistencies, why dont you focus on improving you English communication skills. Use internet resources and grammar labs posted online. If the subject is English Literature and Shakespeare then use Spark-Notes and other literary resources available. The person, who made the comment before me , said that English is a easy passing grade in Western English Speaking countries. I am a student at the University of Toronto, and previously I also studied 8-years in Pakistan. I can tell you that English is equally hard a course as other humanities like social-sciences, philosophy , political science and economics. The fact of the matter is that maybe the majority of students are perhaps thinking that English is something that is easy and requires less studying. I encourage you to step up the game, fix your grammatical errors and other fundamental linguistic and spelling mistakes and then complain to the authorities."
