Punjab University (PU) BA/BSc Annual Examinations results
PU to announce BA/BSc result on 23rd
Lahore, Aug 22, 2008: The Punjab University (PU) will announce its BA/BSc Annual
Examinations 2008 result on Saturday, August 23, a PU spokesman said on
Thursday.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would give prizes to
position holders at a ceremony to be held in Faisal Auditorium on the New Campus
the same day, the official added.
He said that 100 copies
of the result gazette had been prepared and individuals/institutions could
obtain the gazette copy on August 23 after depositing the fee. Earlier, certain
segments of the press had reported that the PU results had been leaked in
advance. This report has been refuted by PU authorities, who say that the
results will be released as scheduled. App

"I have been reading the comments of most of the students in response to the failing grades they received on their Punjab University English exams. I sympathize with most of the students. The education system in Pakistan is definitely sluggish and results take long to be released. The markers and the system is definitely flawed. Point taken! However, the caliber of English as expressed by most of you students here is unfortunately pathetic. The sentence structure is really fragmented. The grammar in general in regards to periods, commas and colons are being misused at the wrong places. In addition, the tenses are being used without second-thought as to what space and time the person wants to make a posting in the forum entry. Communication skills are essential for English degrees. Written skills and effective communication on paper is what gets most students marks. Rather than blaming the system for its inconsistencies, why dont you focus on improving you English communication skills. Use internet resources and grammar labs posted online. If the subject is English Literature and Shakespeare then use Spark-Notes and other literary resources available. The person, who made the comment before me , said that English is a easy passing grade in Western English Speaking countries. I am a student at the University of Toronto, and previously I also studied 8-years in Pakistan. I can tell you that English is equally hard a course as other humanities like social-sciences, philosophy , political science and economics. The fact of the matter is that maybe the majority of students are perhaps thinking that English is something that is easy and requires less studying. I encourage you to step up the game, fix your grammatical errors and other fundamental linguistic and spelling mistakes and then complain to the authorities."

Punjab University B.Com(Hons)4-year programme recommendations
Lahore: The Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has
approved the recommendations of the Board of Studies on Commerce made in its
meeting held on 26-04-2008, to start the BCom (Hons) 4-years programme under
Annual System in the affiliated colleges. According to a press statement a
notification has been issued in this regard.
Ph.D degree awarded THE Punjab University has awarded Ph D degree to
Deeba Noreen Baig d/o Mubarik Ishaq Baig in the subject of Biological Sciences
(Cell & Molecular Biology) after completion of her thesis entitled "Cloning
and Molecular Characterization of Cry1Ac Gene From Local Isolates of Bacillus
Thuringiensis".
According to a press statement she completed her thesis
under the supervision of Prof Dr A R Shakoori, Director School of Biological
Sciences, University of the Punjab.
PU.results The Punjab University
Examination Department has declared the results of MPhil Dentistry, Master of
Public Administration and MA Education (Elementary & Secondary). According to
a press statement in MPhil Dentistry, Part-II, (Four Years Scheme),
Supplementary Examination 2004, a total of 4 candidates appeared and all were
declared successful.In Master of Public Administration (Evening) (Semester
System), Session 2003-2005, a total of 27 candidates appeared and 13 were
declared successful. In Master of Education (Elementary & Secondary),
Part-I, Annual Examination 2007, a total of 73 candidates appeared and 48 were

PU appointments The Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid
Kamran has approved the recommendations of the Special Selection Committee made
in its meeting held on 19-08-2008 and appointed Deputy Registrars/Deputy
Treasurer.
According to a press statement a notification D/28892/Est II
Dated 19-08-2008 has been issued in this regard. Under the notification, Deputy
Registrar Muhammad Iqbal Mirza has been appointed as Deputy Registrar (Admin-I),
Deputy Registrar Ch Muhammad Siddiq as Deputy Registrar (Admin-II), Deputy
Registrar Rana Abdul Saleem Khan as Deputy Registrar (Acad), Deputy Registrar
Muhammad Amir Khan as Deputy Registrar (Admin-I), Amir Khan will join in place
of Muhammad Iqbal Mirza on 21-08-08 after his retirement, and Deputy Treasurer
Bootay Khan as Deputy Treasurer (Audit).
VC visits PU Exam Branch Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran visited the PU examination
branch on Thursday. Controller Examination Prof Zahid Karim Khan and other
officials were also present. Dr Kamran visited various sections of the branch

Hunt for better English communication skills
Lahore: Principal Officer US Consulate Lahore, Bryan D Hunt has emphasised
the need for better English communication skills in the contemporary
world.
He was speaking to the graduates and faculty of English Access
Micro-scholarship programme here Thursday at Alhamra Hall, on the occasion of
their graduation ceremony.
The US diplomat said that graduates of this
program with enhanced English language skills were now better equipped to get
admission to the Pakistani universities and in the future, participate in a job
market which valued communication skills.
The US Consulate Lahore and Care
Foundation had jointly organised the ceremony held at the conclusion of English
Access and Micro-scholarship programme.
Asma Nisar, the organiser, in her
speech, laid greater emphasis on the importance of English language and its
communication. She said the US Consulate started the programme four years ago
aiming to eliminate the language barriers. She also congratulated all the
graduates.
Groups of students from different centres under the Care
Foundation performed skits, monologue and mimes. Trustee Care Foundation Mrs
Seema Aziz appreciated the phenomenal performance of the students. She told the
audience that her organisation was planning to establish five more centres for
an access to English language.
Saira Hameed and Farah Waheed alumni of
graduation programme also shared their experience of education. "English is a
language of our struggle and freedom and education should be for all", they
observed.
It is to be noted that first access programme in Pakistan was
started in 2004 with the two years grant of $ 150,000 to the Lahore based NGO,
Cooperation for Advancement, Rehabilitation and Education (CARE) Foundation.
Bryan Hunt gave certificates to 600 graduates of the English Access
Micro-scholarship programme-Hibba-tun-Nasir, Aqsa Ashraf Awan, Rabia Abid. PU
