5 marla plots for teachers on excellent performance
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that teachers should fulfill their responsibilities for equipping new generation with education and the government will resolve all their problems.

He expressed these views while addressing prize-distribution ceremony of position-holders of SSC Examination 2009 at Alhamra, here on Saturday. Members of National and provincial assemblies, provincial ministers, vice chancellors, heads of educational institutions, teachers, parents and a large number of male and female students participated in the ceremony. Chairman Lahore Board Dr Muhammad Akram Kashmiri presented the welcome address.

The Chief Minister said by curtailing development expenditures government will provide resources for education and bring a revolution in the education sector with the cooperation of teachers.

He said that prizes of Rs 50,000 each would be given to 1,000 teachers for taking interest in results, attendance, enrolment, community participation and educational facilities as well as utilisation of funds. He said that we have eliminated the politics of plots in our previous tenure and legislation was also made in the assembly in this regard but now we plan to give five marla plots to the teachers showing outstanding performance.

He said that Punjab government under the leadership of PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has been taking revolutionary measures for imparting education to every child of the province. He said that only those nations have made progress, which gave priority to education.

He announced that 50 male and female students acquiring outstanding positions in the examinations this year would be sent on study tour of the prestigious educational institutions abroad.

Shahbaz said that we have deep respect for the teachers and would give them their due status in the society. Those societies never make progress where rights are demanded but responsibilities are avoided, he maintained adding, teachers should pay their full attention to the education and training of new generation on modern lines by keeping them away from groupings and politics.

He said one billion rupees have been allocated in the provincial budget for the encouragement of hard working and dutiful teachers displaying outstanding performance in the education and training of students. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund had been set up first time in the history of the country for providing financial assistance to those talented male and female students for carrying out their educational activities who cannot continue their education due to financial constraints.

He said this fund has been started with Rs 4 billion and an increase of two billion rupees would be made in it annually and after five years, this fund would reach Rs 10 billion, from which scholarships would be awarded to lakhs of poor, intelligent girl and boy students for their education.

Shahbaz said PML-N govt purged completely the examination system of Booti Mafia and after passage of ten years unfortunately this menace has again risen in our society.
