Girls outdo boys in class-IX exams

Lahore, Aug 26: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Tuesday declared the results of Secondary School Certificate (Class-IX) annual examination for 2009.

According to the result notification, as many as 214,801 candidates appeared in the examination. Of them 85,942 candidates passed showing 40.01 percentage.

The preamble to the result notification says 165,223 students (boys and girls) appeared as regular candidates. Of them 73,412 candidates passed (44.43 per cent).

As many as 49,578 boys and girls appeared as private candidates out of whom 12,530 were declared successful (25.27 per cent).

Gender-wise pass percentage showed that girls stood ahead with 46.95 per cent results compared to boys' 34.17 pass percentage. As many as 98,194 girls appeared as regular and private candidates and 46,099 of them passed. Entrance test result on 30th
Lahore: The result of combined entrance test for admission to engineering institutions of Punjab will be announced by the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) on August 30. UET has uploaded the key to the questions of the test at varsity's website www.uet.edu.pk. A UET official said owing to the self-marking scheme this year, the administration had received few inquiries about the result as anyone could match his/her test with the key to know the results. He said the university would announce formal result of the test on 30th.

Phd degree awarded
Lahore: The Government College University (GCU) Lahore has awarded a PhD degree to Zahid Ahmad in the subject of Statistics. His topic was "Incidence of diabetes and estimating the effects of different risk-factors on diabetes in Pakistan". He completed his research under the supervision of Prof Dr Khalid Pervaiz, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
