BISE lahore prize dististritution mistake
BISE fixes responsibility for mistake
Lahore, Aug 23:The inquiry committee, formed to probe the issue of awarding a medal and cash
prize to an ineligible student for third position in the commerce group in the
recently declared intermediate results of the Board of Intermediate and
Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore, has submitted its report to the board
chairman. The committee, formed on August 15, was directed to submit its
report within 48 hours, however, it had sought extra time owing to some
technicalities. It is learnt that after recording statements of computer
section staff and checking computer record with the help of an expert, the
committee submitted its report on Saturday. According to sources, the
committee has found computer section responsible for the mistake. Interestingly,
a computer programmer has already been suspended by the BISE chairman for
negligence. It is pertinent to mention here that on August 15, a private
candidate Syed Hasan Raza Kazmi, who had secured 914 marks, was awarded a bronze
medal and Rs 10,000 for achieving third position in the Commerce Group (Boys) in
intermediate exams 2009 despite the fact that in the group, a student, Mohsin
Hassan of Punjab College of Commerce, had secured 915 marks. After the
prize distribution ceremony, the BISE authorities admitted the "mistake" and
awarded the prize to the eligible candidate. The services of BISE
Lahore's Deputy Chief Secrecy Officer Muhammad Bashir and Computer Programmer
Waheedur Rehman were also suspended the same day on account of showing gross
negligence. The sources said that for the last two years, the BISE
authorities had computerised the procedure to determine the positions which was
earlier done manually. They said it was only because of the change that the
problem occurred as in the manual process, involving various officials, there
were little chances of such a mistake. It is further learnt that Higher
Education Acting Secretary Ahad Khan Cheema has directed Additional Secretary
(Academics) Muhammad Akram Chaudhry to probe the issue on part of the
department. A department official, seeking anonymity, said the senior
BISE officials would also be included in the inquiry since it was also a part of
their duty to ensure transparency in the results. BISE Chairman Dr Akram
Kashmiri was not available for comments. The news

Nizami urges teachers to promote Two-Nation Theory
Lahore: Chairman Nazria Pakistan Trust (NPT) and Editor-in-Chief The Nation Majid Nizami
has said that teachers should play their role in informing the new generation about Nazria Pakistan
and ill effects of the Indian culture, adding that freedom is the greatest blessing and slavery a
scourge. Addressing the 8th ideological workshop for the teachers organised
by the NPT in collaboration with Punjab Education Department at Aiwan-e-Karkunan
Tehrik-e-Pakistan on Saturday, he said Pakistan was created and survived because
of its ideology. "If we consider Muslims and Hindus one nation, then there
cannot be any justification of Pakistan. Hindus are idol worshippers and we
are idol- killers and this is the difference." Urging the teachers to
indoctrinate the children with idea that Hindus and Muslims are two separate
nations he said Pakistan could only be defended by acting upon the Two Nation
Theory. He said East Pakistan was separated because of stupidity; but
Bangladesh is not a buffer state for India for which it has the status more or
less similar to Pakistan. Majid Nizami also remarked, "I am sure that
Bangladesh will be Pakistan again," adding that Bengalis were against Ayub and
Yahya Khan. Bengalis were thinking that as they had no generals, they would
never come to power and resultantly, separated apart, he said. Lamenting some newspapers
for promoting Bollywood films, Nizami said Indian Muslims and Pakistanis had been influenced
by the Indian culture. He maintained that Muslims had ruled the Hindus for 1000 years, a fact
which they could never forget. Pointing to the noise raised over Jaswant Singh's book, Nizami said
he was a nationalist leader but Hindus did not accept nationalism either. He
said, "We have experienced the British and Hindus' slavery but you are lucky as
you are born free." He claimed that the US, Israel and India were trying to
wipe out Pakistan, but if the brave Army remained awakened and the rulers kept
considering India a threat, the unholy triangle could harm the nation. Replying
to a question, he said it was unfortunate that people were facing acute shortage
of daily items and price hike just before advent of Ramazan. Prof Dr Humayun
Ihsan claimed that Muslims ruled for more than 1,000 years but Hindus did not
govern Muslims even for single day adding India was destined to break up in near
future. Mian Aziz ul Haq Qureshi said Islamic state was itself a welfare
state. The nation
