IJT observes Black Day
Lahore: Black Day was observed by Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) in Punjab
University against the yesterday's torture of University guards on students.
Students sitting on the Admission stalls organized by Islami Jamiat Talab were
wearing black arms bandages. Main admission stall was organized on Gate No. 2
while the other admission stalls were organized in Department of Library
Science, Department of Geology, Department of Statistics, University Law
College, Institute of Education and Research and Institute of Business
Administration. Students said that yesterday's misbehave of university guards
with students not only affected the peaceful environment of University but also
affected negatively the image of Punjab University. Nazim Islami Jamiat Talba
Punjab University Qaisar Sharief visited the admission stalls and while talking
to the students said that students are stakeholders of university and to
organize positive extra curricular activity in education institute is their
democratic right. IJT has always give honour and respect to teachers, yesterday
negative propaganda against IJT was done by university administration. There are
some elements in teacher community who are misusing their powers. Vice
Chancellor must have to take stern action against such elements. Nazim IJT was
of the view that previous year Dr. Saeed Ahmad Nagra and Dr. Basheer had also
got tortured the students through university guards, resultantly leg of a
student was also broken but no action against the responsible was initiated.
Qaisar Sharief said that IJT will continue to guide new comers in PU through
their admission stalls. F.P report

An ugly incident
Lahore: The clash at the Punjab University between the IJT and the University
administration that left a number of students injured leaves a bad taste in the
mouth. Broadly speaking, this is a far cry from the discipline that should be
the trademark of prestigious educational institutions like the PU. Things got
out of control when the IJT activists refused to remove the admission stall it
had set up. Though the university administration says that what the IJT was
doing was an illegal act, the fact remains that it takes two to tango. One
cannot help but hold both sides responsible for the violence. Two of the
students were so badly injured that they had to be shifted to the hospital and
therefore the possibility of more violence coming from both sides to avenge
themselves cannot be ruled out. The university administration must exercise
restraint and try to hammer out an amicable solution. Incidents of the sort
would only bring a bad name to the University and tarnish its image as one of
the premier institutions of higher learning in the country. While there is no
disputing the reality that the energy and zeal of the students has to be
provided with proper outlets within the parameters defined by the academic
world, they are also supposed to maintain discipline. There is also no point in
the university administration becoming harsh with them. The nation
