Open house for IT & Telecom held at NUST
Islamabad, Aug 13: An 'Open House' for graduating students of Telecommunications
and Computer Software Engineering on Wednesday was held at Military College of
Signals Rawalpindi - a campus of National University of Sciences and Technology
(NUST). NUST Rector Lieutenant General Muhammad Asghar was chief guest
at the function where over 200 guests from telecom and software industry were
also present. The event provided an opportunity to the students to present their
final year projects to representatives from the industry. Approximately
35 different projects, representing years of hard work of telecom and software
engineering students were displayed on the occasion. The projects demonstrated
the innovation and research of students in their fields of study. These included
a variety of research areas, from pure telecomm related 'Cognitive Platform
Based on Software Defined Radio' and 'Design and Implementation of Optical loop
Tester' to novel ideas like 'A Brain Computer Interface - called Think Done'.
Projects like 'Integrated Messaging System, Decision Support System for Motoring
and Traffic Control and Software Analysis and De-obfuscation Engine' were
related to Software Engineering. The projects also included 'GSM Interceptor'
and 'Mosaicing of Orthorectified Images'. The guests highly appreciated
the talent of the young students who put in every effort to achieve success for
their brainchild.

Distinction
Rawalpindi: Students of the FG Public Secondary School, Mahfooz Road, have
achieved exceptional results in the Secondary School Certificate Annual
Examination of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, says a
press release. Hamza Ali Nawaz clinched first position in the school by
obtaining 961 marks. As many as 43 students of the school got A-1 grade.
Principal Rashid Hussain congratulated students and faculty members of
the school for showing excellent results. * * * A student
of the Roots School System, Ramal Raza Kazmi, daughter of Colonel Tabassam Raza
Kazmi, has secured 'A' grades in all subjects in the 'O' level examination, says

National songs, drama competitions held at RAC
Rawalpindi: As part of the ongoing Independence Day celebrations,
Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) organised a singing and drama competitions here
Wednesday at its auditorium. The participating schools actively took part
in the national song as well as tableau competitions, which were organised by
Rawalpindi Arts Council in collaboration with All Pakistan Private School
Management Association (APPSMA) to promote nationalism. Though the
turnover of the participating schools was less due to summer vacations, the
enthusiasm of children was highly appreciable. The programme started with
the recitation from the Holy Qur'aan. Soon after, Happy Palace School presented
a national song 'Ae watan pyare watan', New Foundation School came up with a
tableau 'Dharti Hai Maan', Bright Land Secondary School sang 'Sindhi hum,
Balochi hum', Anglo Islamic School presented a tableau 'Kya Hum Aik Hain' and
Spangle House School's tableau was titled 'Dil Dil Pakistan'. APPSMA
General Secretary Aamir Anwar said they arrange such
functions on a regular basis as part of the Independence celebrations, as they
not only promotes patriotism but also encourages the children to perform with
confidence in front of a huge audience. "The participating students worked hard
for the event and must be appreciated for their effort," he said. APPSMA
Joint Secretary Aijaz Ahmed was also present on the occasion. Later, prizes were
