SU announces BA results
Hyderabad, Aug 13: The University of Sindh has announced the results of B.A pass Part-II of Annual Examinations 2008.

Of 6,098 candidates 4,716 were declared successful with 167 in first division, 4,055 in second and 494 in third division.

Release of lecturers' salaries urged
Karachi: Voicing its concern over the non-payment of salaries to ad hoc lecturers for three months, the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) on Wednesday urged the education department to release their salaries immediately and regularise their services.

A meeting of the SPLA provincial executive committee chaired by Prof Mirza Ather Hussain deplored that the authorities concerned were persistently delaying regularisation of ad hoc lecturers' services on one pretext or the other and had stopped disbursement of their salaries for three months.

It claimed that the Sindh minister for education and the provincial chief secretary in their meetings with SPLA leaders had promised that the lecturers' services would be regularised as soon as they cleared the Sindh Public Service Commission examination.

Now when they had cleared the examination, the commitment must be fulfilled, it stressed through a resolution, which added that the affected lecturers' salaries should be disbursed before the advent of Ramazan to mitigate their sufferings.

The meeting also demanded immediate issuance of the notification pertaining to the recent promotion of certain college teachers to grade 18 and convening of a meeting of the provincial selection board-1 for the promotion of some other deserving teachers from grade 19 to 20.

Prof Muzaffar Ali Rizvi, Prof Hemat Ali Pitafi, Prof Yaqoob Chandio, Prof Shafqat Jokhio and Prof Iftikhar Azami were among the others who attended the meeting. Dawn

Book on adult education launched
Karachi: Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) launched 'Ujhlee Rahain - Qaida and Teachers' at a local hotel the other day. The book has been written by SEF Programme Advisor Prof. Rehana Mughni, and is a guide to educate illiterate adult women.

Speaking at the occasion, Mughni introduced the guide to the audience and said that 'Ujhlee Rahain - Qaida and Teachers' comprises of material developed in Urdu for adult women and for educators. She said that based on the philosophy of generative curricula, the learning material is indigenous and interactive, and promotes the concept of lifelong learning. "The Qaida revolves around 12 themes, which are highlighted through separate sections. Every theme is inspired by real life situations and difficulties that afflict an adult in reality," she said.

Mughni added that the guide starts off with the topic of self-identity and exploration of the self, and captivatingly conveys it through poems and an interesting riddle. The book deals with different important topics, such as personal hygiene, diet and nutrition, first aid, human rights, social problems, self employment, and democracy, she added. "The messages have been conveyed through case studies, short stories, dialogues, dramas, character sketches and even poems and exercises" she said.

Chief Guest of the ceremony, Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khoro, said that he had made serious efforts to get SEF recognised from the assembly in 1992, and succeeded in passing a bill from the floor. "SEF is also working for those who are not familiar with words," Khoro said. He lauded the efforts made by Prof. Anita Ali and SEF to promote education in the province, and termed the book a revolutionary step to introduce education amongst neo-literate adults.

SEF Managing Director Prof. Anita Ghulam Ali highlighted the critical role of the foundation in achieving the goals of education and development, and in enriching the learning environment. She stressed that the dissemination of the information and knowledge through the latest publication would surely spread awareness amongst adult women learners and would play a definite role to empower them.

Sindh Literacy and Informal Education Director Iqbal Ur Rehman highlighted the major initiatives being taken by the government to address education and development objectives through adult education.

SEF's technical team also presented a demonstration of the teaching methodologies of the book, which further portrayed how the publication would be useful for educating adult women.

Acclaimed Urdu writer Fehmida Riaz, Ismat Niaz, Yousuf Jamal, advisor to Governor Sindh, Farhana Iqbal and others also spoke at the occasion.The news
