Medical entrance test on Sept 27
Lahore, Aug 18: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has announced the schedule
of admissions to public sector medical and dental institutions of
Punjab. A press release here on Monday said these institutions included
King Edward Medical University Lahore, Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore,
Fatima Jinnah Medical College Lahore, Services Institute of Medical Sciences
Lahore, Nishtar Medical College Multan, Punjab Medical College Faisalabad,
Rawalpindi Medical College Rawalpindi, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur,
Shaikh Zayed Medical College Rahimyar Khan, Sargodha Medical College Sargodha,
Nawaz Sharif Medical College Gujrat, De'Montmorency College of Dentistry Lahore,
Dental Section Nishtar Medical College Multan and Dental Section Punjab Medical
College Faisalabad. Total seats for MBBS programme are 2263; whereas, for
BDS are 216. Entrance Test would to be held on September 27, while passing this
test is mandatory for admission to any public or private sector medical and
dental college of the province. Applicants who passed FSc premedical or
equivalent examination with a minimum score of 715/1100 (65 per cent) marks are
eligible to apply for the admissions. Admission kit containing
prospectus, model question papers, application and admission forms and an
orientation CD on Entrance Test will be available from UHS and all public sector
medical and dental institutions of the Punjab from August 20 to August 26
(including Sunday) for Rs 400. There is no fee for Entrance Test.
Candidates will submit duly filled application forms along with required
documents from August 27 to September 1 (including Sunday). The admittance cards
for the Entrance Test will be issued from September 14 to September 18 from 12
different centres across Punjab. After the declaration of the Entrance
Test result, top 2700 candidates as per provisional merit list will be eligible
to submit their application for admission on prescribed admission forms from
October 22 to October 31. First selection list of MBBS and BDS will be
displayed on November 7 and classes will start on November 16.

"y r u doing this to the male candidates?a seperate college 4 females....y not for males...... what most ov the females do after marrige iz just stay at home serving their family after doing MBBS..... the whole money which government has spend on them becomes worhless...of no use....so do something.....we r lacking doctors because of this reason coz most of doctors in our country r female doctors....huh.. PU BS admissions date extended
Lahore: The Punjab University has extended the last
date for submission of admission forms for BS (Hons) four-year programmes in
various disciplines. In a press statement issued on Monday, Admission Committee
Chairman Prof Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry said that the students seeking admissions
in BS (Hons) programmes could submit admission forms till August 22. He said
extension in date had been made due to holiday on August 14 and declaration of
intermediate results on August 15.

Exams for special people
Lahore: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has assured all-out help
in holding of special examinations. The VC visited the Hamza Foundation Academy
for the Deaf on Monday. According to a press statement, PU Faculty of Education
Dean Prof Dr Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal, Centre for Clinical Psychology acting
Director Dr Aisha Sitwat, Hamza Foundation Board of Trustee Chairman Shahid
Hamid, Hamza Foundation Academy Executive Director Dr Qamar Rasheed, Director
Bushra Ajaz, Principal Rabia Arif and other officials of the academy were also
present on the occasion.

PU to open two schools in Swat
Lahore: The Punjab University (PU) will establish two schools for children in
Swat and other militancy-hit areas and offer Rs 3,000 monthly scholarships each
to four students, the varsity's vice-chancellor said. PU Vice-Chancellor
Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran made this announcement at a press conference on Monday.
The VC briefed reporters about the PU medical and relief activities at its camp
in Swabi from May 27 to July 17. The students were referred for
scholarship by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and they will get the
scholarships until the completion of their degrees, he said. The VC was flanked
by PU Relief Committee Chairman Dr Haris Rashid, In charge Medical Camp Dr Abul
Wafa Mahmood, Chief Medical Officer Dr Farasat Ali Syed, officials and senior
teachers.

PU CSAS seminar
Lahore: The Punjab University
Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) organised a seminar on "Issues in South
Asian Analysis of American Texts: Deciphering Mexican Inquisition." According to
a press statement, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Director Area Study
Centre for Africa, North and South America Prof Dr Rukhsana Qamber delivered a
lecture and discussed about the religious courts during the 15th and 16th
century in Spain. She said that in the modern world only Muslims were being
blamed for extremism. The lecture was followed by question-answer session.
Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) Director Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar
also spoke. A large number of faculty members, MPhil and PhD scholars of various
disciplines also attended the event.

LCWU BA (Hons) results
Lahore: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has announced results for the various
programs of BA (Honours) session 2005-2009. According to a press statement, 13
students appeared in the BA (Hons) Islamic Studies eighth semester (Session
2005-2009) and all passed the exam. As many as nine students appeared in the BA
(Hons) Punjabi eighth semester (Session 2005-2009) and all students cleared the
examination. While 9 candidates appeared in the BA (Hons) Urdu Literature eighth
semester (Session 2005-2009) and all passed the exam.

Defence Public School's honour
Lahore: The Defence Public School for Girls has produced 100 results in O Level Examination 2009.
According to a press statement, 41 students had appeared in the examination.
Mariyam Tahir secured first position in the school with 10 A's, Zainab Taqvi,
Saman Asif and Rabbiyah Shahid shared second position by securing 8 A's each
while Sundas Waheed and Abeer Anjum stood third with 7 A's. Similarly, the
Defence Public School for Boys produced good results. Chaudhry Ali Ahmed Gorsi
stood first with 7 A's, and 2 B's. Ahsan Aslam bagged second position with 6 A's
and 2 Bs while Muhammad Waqar Rehan and Muhammad Masood shared third position
