CAP Karachi colleges admission schedule

Aug 30 last date for first year admission
Karachi, Aug 28: The Centralised Admissions Policy (CAP) committee on Friday further extended the date for submitting the placement forms for admissions to first year classes in the city's public sector colleges and higher secondary schools till Aug 30.

The placement forms, according to the director-general of colleges, Sindh, Prof Nasir Ansar, would now be submitted at only four branches of the Allied Bank - Arambagh, Hassan Square, Landhi and Hyderi Market.

Prof Ansar, who is also chairman of the CAP committee said on Friday that the committee had further extended the date for submitting the placement forms keeping in view the rush of candidates seeking admissions to first year classes.

Although the process of admissions to first year classes in the city's government colleges and higher secondary schools had initially begun on July 23 with the sale of placement forms, the admission process kept on moving at a snail's pace owing to the city's poor law and order situation as a large number of fresh matriculates, particularly those residing in sensitive areas of the metropolis, could not submit their placement forms till the passage of the fourth deadline on Thursday.

Answering a question that how many placement forms had so far been received by the CAP committee, the DG of colleges said that as a large number of candidates submitted their placement forms in the last four or five days, the number of placement forms received by the committee had now risen to around 70,000.

He said work relating to feeding the placement forms data at the Board of Secondary Education Karachi began on Friday and, as such, the first placement lists of the Home Economics and Science General (Computer) groups would be issued next week. Dawn

Submission of HSC suppl exams examination forms
Karachi: Controller of Examination, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Professor Agha Akber Mirza on Friday announced that the submission of examination forms and fee for the HSC Supplementary Examinations 2010 will be accepted without late fee from September 1 to 20.

He said that a late fee of Rs200 would be charged from September 21 to 28 whereas Rs500 would be collected from September 29 to October 5 and Rs1,000 from October 6 to 12. The pay order and forms must be submitted at the sale counter of the BIEK, he added.

No examination form shall be accepted after the expiry date. The college authorities were requested to submit the examination forms duly completed in all respects. Incomplete examination forms will be rejected. The news

HSC Part-II Mark-sheets
Karachi: The BIEK, through another circular, has requested the principals of those colleges who have not yet received the mark-sheets of the HSC Part-II Science (Pre-Engineering, Science General and Pre-Medical) annual examinations-2010, to collect the same by sending their representatives to the board office with an authority letter.

KU declares BA Part-I results
Karachi: The results of the annual examinations 2009 for BA (Part I) Regular were declared by the University of Karachi (KU) on Friday. A total of 7,363 students were registered out of which 7,065 appeared in the examination. Only 2,219 managed to pass the exam, while 4,846 failed. According to the notification, the pass percentage was 31.40. The KU Examination Department withheld the results of a large number of candidates, including 43 students for enrolment issues, six for unauthorised change of subject, 37 for using unfair means and four for want of particulars. ppi

KU flood relief fund receives Rs3 million donations
Karachi: The students of University of Karachi (KU) have always worked tirelessly to serve their countrymen and at this crucial time when a catastrophe has hit our motherland, we are once against standing united to help our brothers in dealing with the after effects of this devastating flood.

These views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor of KU, Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui in a seminar on Friday.

The event was organised to discuss the recent flood and the relief activities being conducted by KU.

Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi told the audience that KU has collected aid worth more than Rs three million and this amount could suffice one month's need of 1000 families. According to her, the University has already dispatched its first batch of aid to the southern areas of Sindh especially in the villages near Gambat.

"The Pakistan Agricultural Foundation has donated 2000 kilogramme of Basmati Rice to the University's flood relief fund whereas medicines of more than Rs0.4 million have also been provided to KU. This shows people's and organisation's faith in the University's relief campaign," she added.

Moreover, relief goods worth more than Rs0.6 million have been taken to the affected areas by the Department of Public Administration while relief for 1000 affected families will be taken to the catchments areas of Sindh tomorrow morning.

On the occasion, the students of Department of Chemistry introduced a "Bio Sand Filter Plant" which costs Rs200 only and is able to purify even the dirtiest water.

The student added that in order to ensure the process of purification and bacteria free water, Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin of Department of Chemistry has formed a water purification tablet.

The cost of the purification system is just Rs200. The students of Faculty of Pharmacy in a presentation said that according to the statistics of UNFPA, 52,300 women of flood affected areas will go in labour in the next three months. The students said that gastroenteritis, malnutrition and various psychological diseases are also a threat to the victims.

NED students collect Rs0.6 million for flood victims
Karachi: The students of NED University have collected Rs0.6 million in cash from within the university for the flood victims and out of this have purchased food and medicines worth Rs 0.3 million needed in camps. In addition clothes and edible goods worth Rs 0.2 million have been collected and handed over to the Pakistan Air Force. Besides one day salary of every employee has also been donated for the same cause and handed over to the office of the Governor Sindh / Chancellor of the University. The news
