Only 32pc qualify UET admission test
Peshawar: The Educational Testing and Evaluation
Agency Monday announced results of the entry test for admission to
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University of Engineering and Technology and its
affiliated engineering colleges for the session 2010. A total of
10,718 male and 393 female students had appeared in the test for
admission in bachelor of engineering programme of which 3,786 could
qualify the test with a pass percentage of 32. Aimal Falak, a female student, topped the test by securing 653 out of total 800 marks.
Result of the test was uploaded on the ETEA's official website www.etea.edu.pk late Monday night. The test was held on Sunday simultaneously at Kernel
Sher Khan Stadium here and Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad amid tight
security. A heavy contingent of police was deployed at the venue to avert any untoward incident. UET
Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, who was present on
the occasion, said this year candidates were in large number as
compared to last year, but ETEA and UET managed to conduct the test in
an organised way despite inclement weather conditions. The
vice-chancellor appreciated the spirit of candidates who turned up at
the test and demonstrated remarkably good behaviour at the venue. He
also lauded the efforts of Rauf Jamil, director ETEA, for organising the
test successfully. The admission schedule of UET Peshawar would be
announced on August 24 through newspapers and electronic media. Apart
from the officials of UET, Khyber Medical University Vice-Chancellor
Prof Dr Hafizullah and representatives of ETEA and Higher Education
Department were also present on the occasion.

Increasing thefts on UoP campus condemned
Peshawar: Tanzim-e-Asatiza, University of Peshawar, Monday condemned the increasing incidents of theft on the university campus. The
condemnation came at a meeting of the body, which criticised the Campus
Police and university administration for their failure to control the
incidents of theft on the campus. The participants of the meeting
said during the last several weeks several teachers had been deprived of
cash and other valuables worth millions of rupees. The participants
also criticised the representative body of the teachers - Peshawar
University Teachers Association - and elected members of the syndicate
and senate for their alleged silence over the incidents. The meeting
also expressed deep concern over the non-payment of enhanced salaries to
the employees of the universities in accordance with the announcement
made in budget. The meeting vowed to resort to legal course of action
in case the salary increase was not paid this month along with arrears
of the past month.

PUTA demands implementation of salary raise
Peshawar: The Peshawar University Teachers
Association (PUTA) on Monday demanded of the federal government for
immediate implementation of 50 percent raise in the basic salary. The
association said the decision has been implemented in rest of the
universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but it has not been enforced in
University of Peshawar yet on the directives of Governor Owais Ahmad
Ghani, who is also chancellor of public-sector universities in the
province. Teachers of the university are facing financial constraints
in the wake of holy month of Ramazan, as skyrocketing prices of
essential commodities, whereas number of them had suffered from recent
flash flood and torrential rains in the province. The Peshawar
University Teachers Association demanded of the federal government for
immediate release of funds for increase of 50 percent in their basic
salaries. Peshawar University Teachers Association lamented that the
University has not issued notification to this effect yet due to
marginal resources and financial constraints confronting by the
administration. The news
