UHS entrance test result 2010

UHS declares entrance test result
Lahore, Aug 03: The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, has declared the result of entrance test for admission to medical and dental colleges of the Punjab. According to a press release here on Monday, a total of 30,026 candidates appeared in the entrance test held on July 20, out of which 8524 scored 60 per cent and above marks. As many as 5390 scored 50 to 59 per cent marks whereas 5,743 got 40 to 49 per cent marks. A total of 10,369 candidates scored less than 40 per cent marks.

Ahsan Ali, son of Rafaqat Ali, from DG Khan and Hassaan Iftikhar, s/o M Iftikhar Hussain, from Faisalabad shared the first position, both securing 1058/1100 marks. Zainab Waseem, daughter of Waseem Sarwar, from Multan and Abdullah Khan, s/o Abdul Rauf Khan, from Lahore got second and third positions by securing 1047/1100 and 1042/1100 marks respectively. The UHS will declare the eligibility criteria after the decision of the Lahore High Court. Detailed result can be seen on the UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk. The eligible candidates will compete for 3,205 MBBS and 216 BDS seats in 18 public sector medical and dental colleges. Besides, there are 1,400 MBBS and 400 BDS seats in 15 private sector medical and dental colleges of the province.

It is worth mentioning here that this year UHS had held the entrance test two months prior to the scheduled timing of month of October every year in the past.

There was perception among the parents of the students that UHS administration had fixed the date for entrance test only to oblige the children of the some influential of the province.

Whereas spokesman of the UHS was of the view that UHS had only held the test to secure the students from the owners of the private academies who mint money from the innocent students in the name of preparation of the entry test.

The stakeholders have also expressed their concerns over the pass marks ratio set by the UHS and termed the same contrary to the rules set by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Spokesman then said UHS is playing a supervisory role and all the rules and regulations were framed and amended by Punjab government. The news/ The nation

"The Chief Minister Of the Punjab. Sir very bad result of the medical entrance test.we people are ruined by the flood and disasters For God Sake save our future and education.Plz decrease the passing percentage of the MCAT entrance test."

"To the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Government of Punjab Subject: Lowering of MCAT pass percentile to 40% Date: 27 July 2010 Respected Sir, This application is regarding the MCAT, medical entry test exam in Punjab. We are a group of twenty to twenty five students comprising of foreign, F.sc and Alevel students giving the MCAT. It is with due respect that we intend to inform you that this issue needs to be taken notice of, as it involves the career of thousands of medical students in Pakistan and abroad, who at this point are standing at the brink of disaster! This passing of this test allows an entry into a medical Institute. There are some important points that should have been taken into consideration, but they were not addressed. 1. Time shortage due to exam being forwarded from September to July. It was announced by UHS(University Health Sciences) that the Exam this year would be conducted on 20th of July all over Pakistan. A levels examinations finished on the 10th of June along with F.Sc. MCAT was announced on the 20th of June and the date for the exam was set as 20thof July, leaving only 4 weeks for the preparation of an exam where there are three and a half months given each year. Furthermore, F.Sc and esp. the Alevel exams span a vigorous time period of two months leaving the children entirely sapped at the end. To top it all there were roughly only 4 weeks to prepare for an exam that would decide the future of a generation of students many of them to-be-capable Pakistani doctors. 2. Curriculum There was a sense of confusion and turmoil that prevailed amongst Alevel students on what curriculums to follow, since last year UHS had also claimed that non.FSc students will be getting an Alevel based exam yet many questions were not from our syllabus. Already on a time shortage, Alevels students were hanging in mid-air looking at F.Sc, SAT-II and Alevels at the same time. 3. Alevel students had numerous boards although being promised of just one. This time like the last, the UHS announced that no injustices will be done and the Alevel students will get an exam based on just their own board. At the seminar however, it was announced our exam will be based on all foreign boards; the examination of which Pakistani students undertake. Some of the famous being Cambridge, Edexcel, American High School Board; making them the number upto three to just to begin with! 95% of students in Pakistan give the Cambridge Alevel exam with no idea of the rest, making this a major setback. 4. Foreign students didn't stand a chance. Many foreign students could not get seats in time to make it for the MCAT being provided only three four weeks to arrive. Where private institutes take them in Government institutes require them to give the MCAT. Attached is the email from a doctor in Los Angeles U.S.A who was sending a group of students to study from abroad who were unable to make it in due time due to many critical issues some being Visa issues and inavailability of seats in time. This being just one case out of many of its sort. The ones who did make it within the three four weeks had no time to prepare an exam course based on so many boards; themselves studying a completely different line of education all their lives abroad i.e. the American High School. 5. Passing Percentage increased dramatically from 40% to 60%. A huge amount of students this year could not clear the exam, firstly due to the injustice of time shortage, secondly a dramatic increase in the passing percentage, last year this percentage was 40, whereas this year it was 60, a huge increase overnight without having been given ample time to cope up with the pressure. This was undue pressure, placed upon students, without having been given the space of time and with unlimited course requirements. This percentage was allocated for the students of Punjab by UHS whereas the rest of the students appearing from other provinces under the policy of PMDC were considered eligible by just appearing for the exam. 6. Injustice done. Many parents from the middle-class even are shifting their children from Matric and F.Sc to Alevels because they want their children to avail the best education possible available within the country. Last year a lot of Alevel students couldn't pass the MCAT because the exam paper was given 40-45 minutes late with no extra time awarded in return and these students sat a year in dedication to the service they would render this country by becoming doctors instead of opting to go abroad. This year not only Alevel but a lot of F.Sc students are going to fall victim to this cycle of shortcomings of the administration of the UHS to conduct a proper MCAT exam, unable to keep such crucial points in consideration. 7. This decision is not only unconstitutional according to article 4,8,10-A,12, 38 but also not in line with the PMDC rules and regulations. As per PMDC criteria, a student who has passed exams of FSc(Per medical) and obtained 60 per cent marks, is eligible to appear in the entrance test but this has been overlooked by U.H.S. and entry test has been held before the announcement of FSc result. The following extract is taken from GOOGLE INTERNATIONAL NEWS and has been appearing in many local newspapers: LAHORE - The General Council of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has recommended that the University of Health Sciences (UHS) be asked to postpone the entry test for admission to the medical colleges until the end of August so that the candidates may have enough time for the preparation, sources in the PMDC said on Friday. The sources said that the council suggested that the UHS be asked to take the test immediately after the announcement of FSc result in August. The Council members were of the view that the date of entry test was fixed for July 20 while the FSc exams were still in progress, and there would be only two weeks for the students to prepare for the test. The students at present are on the 2nd year syllabus and traditionally they go through the revision of 1st year syllabus. It is therefore, evident that the students will not be able to prepare well. In any case there is no plausible hurry to hold the test since the FSc result will be declared towards the end of August or beyond that and holding the test before that carries no logic. The meeting further said that the eligibility given in the advertisement was a combination of the first year result and a certificate from the principal of the college on the prospects of the candidate. This appeared to be the first such arrangement. Also, thousands would appear and might not have 65 per cent marks qualification when the FSc result was declared. This would become a large exercise without any focus. The UHS data shows that around 14,000 of the 22,000 candidates passed when the criteria was set at 40 per cent passing marks. An in-depth study reveals if the passing marks of 60 per cent were to be applied, the number of successful candidates would drop to 6,000. In 2009, the success rate was 60 per cent with the new criteria it would be 30 per cent (6,000 out of 22,000). 8. Punjab in the line of fire. As a result of all this, Punjab will be severely affected. Before this students from all over Pakistan came in swarms to Punjab to pursue medical education. It will be for the very first time in history that Punjab's students will be forced to look to the other provinces where these rules are not applicable. Not only that, a lot of foreign revenue will be lost. On the above, it is strongly recommended that the percentage for passing MCAT be lowered back to 40% as such decisions are not taken overnight. Making the percentage from 40% to 60% in a sudden leap of a year is not just unjustified but criminal. Not only that, this would mean that all the students enrolled last year and before on as low as a 40% are not eligible to become doctors at all, whereas many of them are very capable doctors and at very high posts throughout Pakistan! On behalf of every medical student to whom this injustice was done, we would be highly obliged if this matter is addressed and the unfairness is abridged. We are extremely hopeful that you will give a thorough consideration to this request and not let injustice be done. It is not only a loss to the children and their families only but a greater loss to the nation and the dedicated workforce. The two most important points mentioned above are the passing percentage and the time shortage due to which most of the other problems have resulted from. The contemporary medical students of this country are the future doctors of tomorrow and if their rights are infringed and this unfairness will continue. It will produce a very unhealthy impact for the future generation of medical students aiming to serve this country as doctors. "Respected Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif,I duly request you to change the UHS policy for admission to MBBS and BDS.Although I respect the changes made by UHS and they are good relief but they were implemented at the wrong time.Time matters alot!! Suden decleration of entry test on july 20th was a Shock for the students. They should have announced it atleast 6 months before. This decision pressureized the students and they couldnt prepare well as a sound mind is needed for good prepration! On account of above disscusion,it was unfair to increase the pass %age to 60%.This decision was like adding fuel to the fire.I respect the decision, its definatly logical that only the deserving students should be given a chance BUT due to time shortage many capable student were not able to score well.If the test was held in september than they could surely have increased the pass percentage and we would not have any objection. The two sudden decisions needed a proper time to be implemented. In consideration to present circumstances it is totally UNFAIR with this batch. Please Sir,take some immediate measures. All the medical students shall be grateful to you. Thank you."

"respected shahbaaz sharif!you have done so many great services for our beloved country PAKISTAN!this step of taking entry test too earlier was initially a shocking step for all the shining students of fsc!entry test is taken to eliminate all sorts of hanky pankies, cheatings etc bt the former chief justice daughter farah dogar was given admision illegally!not only this many others pass this test illegally!uhs director said that this entry test was taken earlier in order to fail the costly acadamies but he does not know that he is indirectly failing the students!how much unlucky is he/she who cant get admision only because he/she cant get marks in entry test although he/she scored well in fsc!so it is my and hope that it is request of all the those shining students who could,nt get good marks in entry test that entry test should be eliminated!only fsc rankings be required to judje the rankings of students and the merits of medical colleges!for furthur incoming years this pattern should be followed and if not so than enough time should be given to students so that they can prepare 8 books with perfection"

"its highly disapointing that i can get admission in any medical college round the world ,bt not in my own country,Pakistan, due to domicile system. has any body ever noticed that we have so much high merits to get into medical colleges, but still we are so behind ,lack technologies compared to foreign countries,u know why is this so,this is because we believe in rote learning, and getting 90 % or above marks and proving our selves tht we r so high on merit.we dont know what we are studying n why we r studying, in fsc course there is a plenty of use less material we study ,like memrizing the names of scientists dates, which is of no use.there are many students every year who do not get admission in pakistan and go abroad for studies and are admitted there, when these peple cum back to pak they are highly respected ,given preferences, universities feel proud to mention that their faculty members are foreign qualified,bt they dont remind that these are the people rejected from universities who are now praising them.so peaple come out of dark now and change the education system of pakistan, work for quality education. and think y are we so backward !!!!"

"we are totally unable to understand the purpose of entry test. firstly punjab board itself gives the result and then it challenges its own judgement through entry test. moreover, if this entry test is so important then we must be taught our syllabus according to it. "BUT WE ARE NOT!" in first 2 yrs we are forced to cram (ratta system) without having time to learn conceptuallY and then we are asked to understand the conceptual basis of a pile of most difficult books in just "40 DAYS!" along with the tension of your "CORRUPT" system of "PRACTICALS" ahead! WHAT IS THIS? this is a complete planning of keeping PAKISTAN backward, the planning given by "BRITISH PEOPLE" to corrupt politiciAns of A NEWLY MADE INDEPENDENT STATE "PAKISTAN" in 1947. "i think uhs should do justice with fresh students. this is favourable for repeaters because they have a complete year for preparation but fresh students have only one month.... this is not fair.... many fresh students who have secured above 950 marks in f.sc cant clear the entry test. that dosenot mean that they are not eligible. but this shows that this year policy was totally wrong.... plz do something for fresh candidates,"

YDA flays brain-drain
Lahore: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has condemned the Punjab government for allowing a massive brain drain of doctors to the detriment of the health sector as Saudi Arabia was again here to conduct interviews to attract Pakistani doctors for jobs against special salary packages.

According to a press release on Monday, Young Doctors Association President Dr Rana Sohail, Secretary General Dr Salman Kazmi and others pointed out that Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health officials were conducting interviews at the a local hotel in the provincial metropolis to hire Pakistani doctors.

This time, they said, the Saudi Arabia needed doctors in the family and community medicine (a minor specialty usually neglected in Pakistan) and they were offering even 10,000 Riyals plus to Pakistani doctors.

About 50 doctors appeared on Monday in interviews, they said. The Young Doctors Association office-bearers said that in Pakistan there was a critical shortage of vascular surgeons, ICU specialists, etc, but our government was not concerned at all.

There is only one vascular surgeon, one rheumatologist, one professor of maxillofacial surgery and not even a single critical care/ICU specialist available in Punjab, they said, alleging that senior doctors were not presenting the true picture to the chief minister regarding the shortage of specialists.
