BA/BSc exam's registration
Lahore, Aug 26: Punjab University has extended the last date for
registration of private candidates who want to appear in BA/BSc Annual
Examination 2012. The candidates can submit their registration forms and fee Rs
2,350 till September 15, 2012. The candidates who have passed Intermediate
(FA/FSc/equivalent) Annual Examination 2010 are eligible for registration while
candidates passing Intermediate Exam in Supppl Exam 2010 will have to attach
attested photocopy of their failed result card.

Seven PhDs awarded
Lahore: Punjab University (PU) on Thursday awarded PhD degrees to seven candidates in different
subjects. Ashi d/o Abdul Ghani has been awarded a PhD degree in the
subject of Education after an approval of her research thesis titled A Study of
Perceptions and Responses of Faculty and Administration of Business Schools
about the External Change Factors, Rana Amjad Ali s/o Hafiz Niaz Ahmed Rana in
the subject of Molecular Biology after the approval of his research thesis
titled Genetic Basis of Sound Transduction, Shazia Sadaf d/o Muhammad Saeed in
the subject of Urdu after the approval of her research thesis titled Ashfaq
Ahmad Ki Adabi Khidmat Urdu Adab Kay Tanazur Main, Ghulam Hussain s/o Abdur
Rahman in the subject of Islamic Studies after the approval of his research
thesis titled Contemporary Orientalist on Muhammad s Life at Madina: A Critical
Analysis, Muhammad Abid Nadeem s/o Rehmat Ali in the subject of Islamic Studies
after the approval of his research thesis titled Qur anic Fauna and Flora in the
Light of Islamic Literature and Biology, Shazia Bashir d/o Muhammad Bashir in
the subject of Persian after the approval of her research thesis titled

MBBS admission Eligibility bar lowered to 60pc marks
Lahore: The Punjab government has
finalised arrangements to conduct entrance test for admission to all public and
private medical and dental institutions to be held on Sept 13 in 12 cities, says
a handout. University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Prof Hussain Mubashir Malik
said the test would be conducted simultaneously at 24 centres in Bahawalpur,
Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Gujrat,
Gujranwala, Sargodha, Rawalpindi and Hassan Abdal.
He said the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council had lowered the eligibility
bar from 65 per cent to 60 per cent marks in FSc examination. Approximately
35,000 candidates (male & female) are expected to appear in the test. He
said that transparency and merit would be ensured in the entrance test so that
no brilliant and deserving student would be deprived from his right. Dawn

LCWU offers another entrance test
Lahore: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has offered another chance to the candidates seeking admission in English
Literature as well as in Fine Arts (Intermediate) to appear in entrance tests.
All those applicants who have passed O-level or have secured at least 700 marks
in matriculation examination and could not take the previous entrance test, now
can appear in entrance tests to be held on August 29. LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr
Sabiha Mansoor said entrance tests for Fine Arts and English Literature
admission would be held on August 29. The news

CIIT, UK varsity sign MoU
Taxila: The Comsats Institute of Information Technology
(CIIT) Wah Cantt and University of Bedfordshire (UoB), UK signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to offer dual degree programmes in business
administration, computer science, telecommunications and
networking. The six-member accreditation team of the University of Bedfordshire, UK and
the CIIT officials signed the MoU in a ceremony held here to launch four-year
undergraduate dual degree programmes. According to the MoU, the graduates would
receive two degrees, one each from the UoB and the CIIT, on successful
completion of the programmes.
Earlier, the six-member accreditation team comprising Prof Ashraf Jawaid,
Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Bedfordshire (UoB), Dr Paul Davies,
Associate Dean, Faculty of Education, Sports and Tourism, Mr Timothy Gregory,
Head of Quality Directorate, UoB, Jeremy White, Deputy Director, Transnational
Education, UoB, Dr Anthony Atkins, Reader Applied Computing, Staffordshire
University and Dr Abdullah Z Sheikh, Lecturer, International HRM, University of
East London carried out detailed review of the academic standards of the CIIT
and visited the academic blocks and IT labs.
Deputy Vice Chancellor University of Bedfordshire Prof Ashraf Jawaid, while
speaking on the occasion, expressed his satisfaction with the level of
preparedness of the CIIT for offering the degree programmes of the University of
Bedfordshire in Pakistan.
He said that the University of Bedfordshire was promoting the outreach of
quality programmes to a developing country like Pakistan. He further said as the
visa regimes getting stringent, availability of such programmes in Pakistan
would provide a firm access to the quality education to the students.
Director, CIIT, Wah Campus Prof Dr Tayyeb Akram, while speaking on the
occasion, said that it was a remarkable milestone in the CIIT history as it had
entered into a joint virtue with a foreign university to launch dual degree
programmes.
He said that it would enhance the credibility of the institute in the country
and the students would be able to get internationally recognised degrees in
Pakistan. Mr Akram appreciated the confidence reposed by the UoB authorities on
the CIIT.
He said that this collaborative initiative would help CIIT further improve
the quality of academic and research including the management functions. Dawn
