Girls clinch top positions in annual exams
Sargodha, Aug 09: The University of Sargodha announced the result of first annual
BA/BSc examination 2011. The result declaration ceremony was held on Monday
where UoS Controller (Examinations) Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi announced the result.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali conferred shields and
merit certificates on position-holding students. He also gave away cash prize of
Rs10,000, 7,000 and 5,000 to the students who grabbed first three positions in
the examination respectively. Speaking on the occasion, the
VC claimed that since the inception of the varsity, it has conducted various
examinations in many disciplines, both regular and composite but it always
maintained the sanctity of the system by conducting the examinations in fair and
free manner. He further said that gradual increase in the enrolment in different
discipline and maximum appearance of the candidates in the examination reflected
the high level of trust of the students in academic discipline and examination
system of the UoS. In BA exam, Ms. Rubina Anwar, a private candidate from Bhera
got 1st position by scoring 619 marks. She also stands overall 1st in the BA/BSc
examination 2011. Amsa Rani from Govt College for Women Kot Momin Sargodha stood
2nd by scoring 612 marks whereas Mr Noorul Arifeen, a private candidate from
Sargodha and Inam Ullah Shah, a private candidate from Mianwali got 3rd position
by securing 608 marks. In BSc exam, Ms Sehrish
Noreen from Acme College of Excellence, Sargodha got first position with 591
marks while Ms. Aymen Qayyum from Govt College for women Chandni Chowk Sargodha
grabbed 2nd position by scoring 585 marks and Ms Misbah Yasin from Al-Suffah
Girls College, Sargodha got 3rd position by getting 584 marks in the BA, BSc
examination 2011. A total of 14,233 candidates
appeared in the exams out of which 5356 were declared pass with the total
percentage of 37.66 percent. In BA examination 12,933 candidates appeared of
which 4857 passed the examination whereas 1300 candidates appeared in BSc
examination and 499 candidates were declared pass. The nation

PEF plans to celebrate I-Day
Lahore: The Punjab
Education Foundation (PEF) has evolved a comprehensive plan to celebrate the
upcoming Pakistan Day being held on August 14 with full fervour and zeal.
The PEF partner schools will arrange special programmes in connection
with Pakistan Day celebrations including holding of tableau shows, national
songs, drawing and quiz competitions and declamation contests.
Meanwhile, EDO Education Pervaiz Akhtar will organise the ceremonies in
connection with Pakistan Day after the summer vacation which would end on August
14. He said students of government schools would take part in the central
ceremony to be organised by the Punjab government at the provincial metropolis
at Hazoori Bagh. He said functions would also be organised at government schools
after August 14 to mark the country's Independence Day.

UoE budget proposals
Lahore: A meeting of the University of Education's finance and planning committee was held here on
Monday which approved the university's budget proposals for the fiscal year
2011-2012. According to a press statement, Vice Chancellor Dr
Faiz-ul-Hasan presided over the meeting. Deputy Secretary Finance and Education
suggested competition of the recruitments on contract basis while he also
insisted on the affiliation of the institutes with the varsity. Dr Faiz
ul Hasan also announced decrease in admission fee, saying inflation had badly
affected education expenses, adding that educational revolution was possible
through providing better facilities of research.

GCU wins award
Lahore: Government College University's Management Studies Department (MSD) has won the Leadership
Award at the Second Asia's Best Business School Awards held under the CMO Asia
and World Brand Congress to identify the Asia's best business schools.
GCU MSD foreign faculty member and noted French Economist Dr Marie-Aimée
Tourres received the award at a gracious ceremony held at Suntec, Singapore. GCU
MSD Director Najaf Yawar Khan said the GCU Management Studies Department was the
only Pakistani institution among twelve business schools who won the Leadership
Award. The two other Pakistani intuitions, Karachi University and Institute of
Business Administration, were awarded with Innovation Awards at the Second
Aisa's Best Business School Awards. The news
