IIU students deliver bouquet for Dr Khan
ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: Students of International Islamic University (IIU) managed to reach
Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan's residence despite massive resistance from Islamabad
police to present him with a bouquet of flowers on the eve of the Independence
Day here on Monday night.
The students during a rally in front of the
Faisal Mosque had announced that they would proceed towards the residence of the
nuclear scientist, Dr A Q Khan, to present him with a bouquet of flowers on the
Independence Day.
Hundreds of Islamabad and Punjab police personnel
reached the spot after they learnt about the plan of the students and blocked
the road leading to the residence of Dr Khan. However, the students managed to
reach his residence.
The participants of the rally at the Faisal Mosque
were raising anti-government and anti-Musharraf slogans. Seeing the increasing
number of the participants and their anger, the authorities were forced to
negotiate with the students.
Finally, the administration agreed to allow
three students to proceed towards the residence of Dr Khan, who gave the bouquet
to the in-charge of a security team with the promise that it would be delivered
to Dr Khan. The news
