Colloquium meeting held at FJWU

Rawalpindi, Aug 10: The third University Colloquium meeting began here Thursday at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU). Colloquium meeting is a part of the university's tradition of sharing research and experiences with other faculty members gained through participation in international seminars, workshops and conferences.

Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan chaired the meeting. Dr Samina A Qadir, Pro Vice Chancellor and Chairperson English Department, briefed the faculty members on her visit to UK. The FJWU English department has a link with the School of Education and Languages, University of Birmingham (UoB), under the HEC/BC Link Scheme. It is a three years link programme (2007-2009). The focus of the link is introduction of Bilingualism and Bilingual Education at FJWU.

Dr Samina Amin Qadir, Link coordinator in FJWU, stayed at UoB from May 7 to 19, 2007. The purpose of her visit was to plan the logistics and explore the future prospects of the link with UK Link Coordinator Prof Dr Marlyn Martin Jones, School of Education and Language UoB.

She attended a series of meetings with the faculty members of the School of Education and Languages. A three years plan of the link was chalked out and the sequence of activities was planned. Dr Qadir also discussed the possibilities of evaluation of PhD thesis and joint research projects with UoB. The Higher Education Commission's short term and long term Foreign Faculty Hiring Scheme was discussed to encourage the members of the faculty of School of Education and Languages to come to FJWU. She called it a fruitful visit made very congenial by the hospitality and thoughtfulness of UK link coordinator Prof Dr Marlyn Martin Jones. The news
