Colloquium meeting held at FJWU
Rawalpindi, Aug 10: The third University Colloquium meeting began here Thursday at
Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU). Colloquium meeting is a part of the
university's tradition of sharing research and experiences with other faculty
members gained through participation in international seminars, workshops and
conferences.
Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Saeeda
Asadullah Khan chaired the meeting. Dr Samina A Qadir, Pro Vice Chancellor and
Chairperson English Department, briefed the faculty members on her visit to UK.
The FJWU English department has a link with the School of Education and
Languages, University of Birmingham (UoB), under the HEC/BC Link Scheme. It is a
three years link programme (2007-2009). The focus of the link is introduction of
Bilingualism and Bilingual Education at FJWU.
Dr Samina Amin Qadir, Link
coordinator in FJWU, stayed at UoB from May 7 to 19, 2007. The purpose of her
visit was to plan the logistics and explore the future prospects of the link
with UK Link Coordinator Prof Dr Marlyn Martin Jones, School of Education and
Language UoB.
She attended a series of meetings with the faculty members
of the School of Education and Languages. A three years plan of the link was
chalked out and the sequence of activities was planned. Dr Qadir also discussed
the possibilities of evaluation of PhD thesis and joint research projects with
UoB. The Higher Education Commission's short term and long term Foreign Faculty
Hiring Scheme was discussed to encourage the members of the faculty of School of
Education and Languages to come to FJWU. She called it a fruitful visit made
very congenial by the hospitality and thoughtfulness of UK link coordinator Prof
Dr Marlyn Martin Jones. The news
