Lahore Govt schools to get 25,000 benches before new session
LAHORE, Aug 24: District nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has directed the
Education Department to finalise a provision of 25,000 desk benches to the
government schools before the begin of the new academic session on August
27.
Chairing a meeting to review performance of various departments of
the district government on Thursday, he said that the Education Department would
ensure that the furniture was manufactured according to the specification. The
firms that did not manufacture the furniture accordingly would be penalised, he
added.
The district nazim also directed the Sports Department to allocate
10-kanal land for a gymnasium. He asked the department to conduct sports at
district level and said that the government would give a grant to the department
for the purpose.
He asked the department concerned to form a five-member
committee to monitor the disbursement of 12 instalments of the Food Support
Programme.
He called on the traffic police to cooperate with the district
government in preventing the overloading of trolleys. He asked the traffic
police to set up checkpoints at the city's 12 entries to the city to stop
overloaded trolleys.
The meeting was informed that a mechanical vacuum
sweeper of Rs 9.4 millions, imported from Australia, had started cleaning roads
on experiment basis, adding that another such cleaner would also be bought soon.
The meeting was told that 12 waste enclosures had been constructed at
the GOR 1, 2 and 3, and the Government College for Women, Samanabad, Lorry Adda
and at some other places.
District coordination officer Muhammad Ijaz,
naib nazim Muhamamd Idrees Hanif, senior superintendent police (traffic) Ghulam
Mahmood Dogar and executive district officers of all departments participated in
