Normalcy restored to JPMC
Karachi, Aug 28: Amid tight security, normalcy seemed to be restoring to the
Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Monday after Saturday's violent
clashes as the patients less than normal thronged all outpatients departments
(OPDs) and the emergency ward.
"Situation was gradually returning to
normalcy", said Deputy Director JPMC, Dr Shahid Iqbal Danish. He said that heavy
presence of Rangers and police have provided a feeling of sense of security to
the doctors and paramedical staff. However, he admitted that around 30 per cent
of doctors did not attend their duties as perhaps they were not aware of the
hospital administration's efforts to get heavy contingents of security personnel
deployed at all exist and entry points.
Referring to the hospital
administration's meeting with the Sindh governor, he said that they have decided
that enough was enough. To a question, Dr Danish said that bringing supposed
rival student groups to negotiation table in order to pacify the situation was
responsibility of the local administration as the hospital administration could
only take disciplinary action against the medical students studying at its
affiliated institutes. The news
