Police arrest five activists of PSA
Karachi, Aug 18: The Sadar police have arrested five activists of the Punjabi
Student Association (PSA) in connection with the violent incident that occurred
on the premises of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College (JMPC) on Wednesday which
claimed the life of a student of a rival group.
The Sadar police also
registered five separate cases of the reported incident. The clash occurred
between activists of the Punjabi Student Association (PSA) and the Islami
Jamiat-i-Taliba (IJT) which resulted in the death of Hafiz Abdur Rehman, a 3rd
year student of the Sindh Medical College (SMC) and the Nazim of the IJT.
Sub Inspector of the Sadar police station Ghulam Qadir said that the
police were on patrol outside the SMC when they witnessed some 25 to 30 students
belonging to the PSA quarreling with activists of IJT and a clash occurred. He
said the police arrested Rizwan Ahmed, Saqib, Farhan, Mohammed Wahed and Tauseef
alias Amir, while Faisal along with Kamran, Tazeem, Rana Imran and Amin
fled.
Ahmed Ali, a family member of the deceased Hafiz Abdur Rehman, said
that while he was present on duty at the Emergency Ward when the accused Faisal,
Imran Rind, Azeem and Imran of the PSA appeared there and whisked away Abdul
Rehman. They took Abdul Rehman at the main gate and shoot and killed
him.
The police said that after the death of Abdul Rehman, about 100 to
150 activists of IJT resorted to violence damaging window panes of the emergency
ward as well as attacking medical stores and shops situated in and around the
JPMC.
The IJI activists also damaged the mobile police vans of the
Supervisory Police Officer Clifton and the Sadar police station-I and II and
beat up head constable Mohammed Yousuf and burnt a motorcycle and damaged a room
and windowpanes of the hostel. The News
