PU authorities 'harassing' Mustafa Town residents
LAHORE, Aug 7: The residents of Mustafa Town said on Monday that the
university authorities had threatened them and told them that the university
would keep dumping garbage in their area.
PU resident officer Malik
Muhammad Zaheer said that no official of the PU had threaten the
residents. He said the university authorities visited the area to assess the
garbage dump problem. He said, "We only asked residents about their problem and
assured them that the problem will soon be solved after finding an alternative
site for dumping the waste."
Residents, however, said that after the
publication of the news that the PU wastage had been dumping in the Mustafa Town
and that resultantly residents of the area had been suffering various
sicknesses, PU authorities told Mustafa Town residents that publicising the
issue would not help them solve the problem and the university would keep
dumping waste in their area.
Resident of the area Shahid Mushtaq said that PU resident officer Malik Muhammad Zheer, estate officer
Muhammad Saleem Akhtar, sanitary officer Muhammad Ali and more than one dozens
PU security guards came there house and they threaten his family on the
publication of the news. He said PU authorities told them that they would now
bury the whole area in garbage and would take action against those who would
complain. He said that his whole family was disturbed due to the harassment.
Ahmad Yar Welfare Society President Imran Gul said that he would
demonstrate in front of Lahore Press Cub against this act of PU authorities. He
said the threatening of the PU authorities was a violation of human rights and
that the whole community would agitate against it. He said everyone in the area
was disturbed because of the garbage heaped by the university but PU had not
even shown a little interest in solving the problem. Daily times
