Education Dept clerks observe pen-down strike

RAWALPINDI, Aug 29 - On the call of All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA), the clerks of education department Rawalpindi observed pen-down strike and also arranged a rally at EDO Office Murree Road where the clerk leaders highlighted their demands.

The clerks also pledged to continue struggle till the acceptance of their demands and would observe the protest plan given by APCA central leadership.

For the whole day the clerks stayed away from their official duties while in the afternoon they joined the rally of the clerks, which was participated by the APCA leaders from all the tehsils of Rawalpindi. Addressing the gathering of clerks the APCA leaders came down hard on Punjab government for adopting delaying tactics in the promotion of clerks and said that the pen-down strike would continue till the issuance of notification for the up-gradation of the clerks.

They further demanded the revision of pay scales of clerks, next pay scale of the employees working in Grade 4 and that the slots of assistants announced recently by the Punjab govt to be filled from within the department. They further demanded that the clerks who fulfilled the criterion for these slots must be upgraded and no fresh recruitment on these slots should be made.

These leaders also expressed concern over ban on promotion of the clerks in Rawalpindi district and said that the promotions had been made in rest of the districts in the province due to which the clerks in Rawalpindi became junior to the clerks working in other districts. They demanded immediate notification for promotion of clerks in the district so that their grievance could be addressed. Later on the clerks dispersed peacefully with the pledge that they would continue their struggle and go to any extend to achieve their objectives. The nation
