Police ordered to lodge FIR against VP DUHS
Karachi, Aug 17 : Additional District & Sessions Judge (South) Farzana Iqbal on
Wednesday ordered Risala Police to lodge an FIR against the Vice Principal of
Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Qazi Irshad and his security guard for
manhandling and issuing threatening statements to kill a final-year MBBS
student.
The court was hearing the application of Muhammed Usman Tariq
who was rusticated for one year from DUHS on July 21 this year under the
"Student Conduct Rule" for participating in protests against the raise in
examination fees.
Later, the SHC granted a stay against the rustication
order and directed the university administration to allow the petitioner take
classes and appear in exams.
Muhammed Tariq submitted that students had
been staging peaceful protests against the raise in tuition fees and, on July
21, he wanted to call on the DUHS principal to discuss the issue, but the
security guard present at the gate manhandled him on the instructions of the
vice principal.
Applicant's counsel Sarwar Mohammed Khan submitted that,
after the incident, his client wanted to lodge a FIR in PS Risala against the
vice principal and security guard but the police denied the occurrence of any
such incident and refused to register the case.
Conversely, the police
booked three students under sections 147, 148, 353 and 506 of the PPC for
creating disturbance at the campus on the complaint of registrar, DUHS, he
added.
He prayed to the court to order the police to register a FIR
against the vice principal and also to declare the FIR lodged against the three
students as illegal. The news
