Illegal activities on the rise in private hostels
ISLAMABAD, Aug 6: There have been claims of illegal drug use, viewing of
pornographic films and other abuses in private boys hostels in Islamabad and
Rawalpindi.
According to a survey, at least 150 private and commercial
hostels are operating without any rules and regulations to maintain moral
standards and prevent illegal activities.
These hostels are located in
sectors I-9, F-10, H-9, Asghar Mall Road, Saddar, Satellite Town, Commercial
Market and Raja Bazaar. Residents said hostels should be monitored and the
Education Ministry should evolve a strategy for these hostels.
Students
acknowledged that there was no check on private hostels and added that they had
no other option than to live in hostels until their colleges offered adequate
housing. They admitted that several students watched pornographic movies in
their rooms and agreed that the Education Board should intervene in the matter
and appoint hostel monitoring teams.
