Professor Riaz ul Islam passes away
KARACHI, Aug 14: Prof. Dr Riaz ul Islam, a historian and professor
emeritus of the University of Karachi, passed away Monday after a brief illness.
He was 88. A statement from the university said that he will be laid to rest at
the University Graveyard on August 14.
The vice-chancellor of the
university, Prof. Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, has expressed his grief for
the loss. He recalled Riaz's contributions to the field of education, especially
in the discipline of history. Prof. Riaz was considered an expert in the history
of Central Asia and was also the author of a number of publications. He had also
served as the chairman of the department of general history at the university
for various years between 1960 and 1979. app
