Quaid-i-Awam University budget approved
NAWABSHAH, Aug 7: The Senate of Quaid-i-Awam University of Engineering,
Science and Technology (QUEST) Nawabshah, met here on Monday and approved the
annual budget of Rs545.582 million for the year 2007-08.
Sindh Governor
and Chancellor of Sindh universities, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, could not attend
the budget meeting due to his prior commitments.
Vice Chancellor QUEST,
Prof A.A.Junejo presided over the meeting.
The Acting Director Finance
and Dean Faculty of Engineering QUEST, Prof A.B. Soomro, presented the budget
estimates, which included Rs292.349 million for recurring expenditures while
Rs253.233 million were allocated for development.
Schemes in the
development budget included: development schemes of phase-II (Rs47.491 million),
strengthening of laboratories and library (Rs2.12 million), establishment of
endowment fund for IT sector (Rs721,000), computerisation and networking
enhancement programme (Rs1.541 million), establishment of centralised
laboratories (Rs3.969 million), hostel for visiting faculty (Rs8.194 million),
construction of administration block (Rs21.463 million), establishment of
department of mathematics and statistics (Rs33.636 million), faculty development
and other immediate needs (Rs119.098 million) and extension of educational and
allied faculties (Rs15 million).
Non-development budget estimates
included: salaries and allowances (Rs185.749 million), promotion of educational
research and extension (Rs20.9 million), staff and students facilities (Rs16.8
million), miscellaneous (Rs63.4 million) liabilities (Rs2 million) and special
research grant (Rs3.5 million).
The meeting confirmed the minutes of 8th
meeting of senate, approved Rs10.687 million for self-financing budget
estimates, audited annual statement of accounts and 9th annual report of the
university.
The meeting also considered and recommended to the
Governor/Chancellor for approval of draft statutes regarding financial
assistance, non-practicing allowance, pay scales, conditions of service,
eligibility criteria for appointment of faculty members, grant of BPS-22 and
conduct of elections of registered graduates to the senate.

University, Dr Asadullah Kazi; Dean faculty of engineering QUEST, Prof
A.B.Soomro; Prof Dr Haji Mehmood Memon of Mehran University, Chairman BISE
