Sindh govt urged to ensure availability of textbooks
HYDERABAD, Aug 12: District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri, on Saturday
requested top authorities of the Sindh government to take notice of
non-availability of textbooks in the district.
The DCO, after visiting
government schools in various parts of the city, said that the
students of class 6th to class 10th had not received textbooks because of
negligence of the Sindh Text Book Board (STBB), Jamshoro. He recommended to the
Sindh government to issue strict instructions to the STBB for early supply of
textbooks in the market so that students' precious time could be
saved.
The DCO visited the city schools following instructions by the
district Nazim to timely implement the new district education plan 2007-08. The
DCO, to his surprise, received complaints from students and teachers of various
schools about non-availability of textbooks while the new academic session had
already started. He said he was in a touch with the STBB and also writing to the
provincial government on the matter.
Our Khairpur correspondent adds:
Educational institutions opened on August 9 across the province but it is still
unclear whether students would be able to receive their free textbooks as per
the announcement of the Sindh government.
The Sindh Education Department
has recently reiterated its commitment to provide students with free textbooks
up to the 10th standard. Parents said that their children were not
going to schools because books were not available even at bookstalls. They added
textbooks were provided last year for students after four months had gone in the
educational year. The news
