COMSATS convocation: 186 awarded degrees
LAHORE, Dec 04, 2007: The 15th convocation of COMSATS Institute of Information
Technology (CIIT) was held on Monday in which some 186 students of MSCS, MSc,
MBA, BIT, BS (CE) and BSc were awarded degrees.
The ceremony was held at
the CIIT Lahore campus in which Rector Dr SM Junaid Zaidi was the chief guest
while federal Information Technology Secretary NM Butt, CIIT Wah and Attock
campus directors, board of academic council, students and their parents
participated.
Addressing the participants, Dr Zaidi said promotion of
modern education was the first and foremost aim of CIIT, so that maximum
developments took place in Information Technology and the engineering sector of
the country. He said more than 11,000 were receiving education at CIIT
Islamabad, Lahore, Abbottabad, Wah, Attock and Sahiwal campuses while around 900
faculty members were appointed for teaching and research purposes. He said more
than 50 teachers were being sent to foreign countries for higher education every
year.
Earlier, CIIT Lahore campus Director Dr Shoukat Ali Hayat presented
the annual report and said every possible facility was being provided to the
students at the campus. Later, degrees were awarded to successful students of
the institute.
PU VC pays surprise visit to Law College
The Punjab University Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Butt Monday paid
a surprise visit to the University Law College and addressed the college
students, said a press statement. Talking to the students, he said that problems
were also part of life and it was wise to resolve them amicably. He said every
civilised person must have knowledge of law education. He said the PU Law
College students should be proud of being law students at the university. He
directed the college library staff to take special measures to preserve rare
material of the library and use its photocopies.
He also directed the college
principal to improve the college auditorium and arrange law conferences and
discussion sessions of students. He also directed to start capacity building
courses with the collaboration of faculty. Meanwhile, PU sources said that the VC's surprise visit was an effort to pacifying the Law College students
who were most active in taking out processions against the Islami Jamiat Talaba
at the university. They said some students had announced a rally against the IJT
for Monday (yesterday) due to which the VC visited the college and pacified the
protesting students through his speech. The News
