General Kayani urges students to aim high for success

RAWALPINDI, Dec 07, 2007: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Thursday urged students to aim high and give their best to achieve success in life, while addressing the 5th Postgraduate Convocation of NUST in Rawalpindi, according to an ISPR release.

He said, "Always aim high and put in your best. Your attitude will determine your altitude."

"Be the inspiring ambassadors of values of objectivity, creativity and innovation that NUST has helped you imbibe," he added. The COAS admired the attainment of high standard by NUST and commended it for being among the top 500 universities of the world.

He told the graduates that NUST had equipped them with sound education and training in their respective fields. It was up to them to continually build on this solid academic foundation and embrace the best in professional learning and advancement.

"Frontiers of education in all fields, specifically in sciences and technology, are expanding beyond imagination. And so are the opportunities for them to advance, provided they have the inspiration and will to do so," the COAS said.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman also addressed the convocation. He informed the audience about HEC contribution and its efforts in formulating educational policies and funding institutions at a national level.

Earlier, Rector NUST, Lieutenant General Muhammad Asghar, said NUST was only 16 years old but it had evolved and progressed phenomenally into a highly respected national institution, with an equally distinct international image.

About 226 postgraduate scholars were awarded Master's degrees by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in their respective fields and two scholars were awarded PhD degrees on the occasion. Daily Times
