Decrease in annual budget worries Gomal varsity VC
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 04, 2007: Gomal University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr
Muhammad Farid Khan said on Monday that the university would face Rs 3 to 4
crores loss if the Higher Education Commission (HEC) cut its annual
budget.
In an interview, Dr Farid Khan said that as
usual the Gomal University administration had presented a summary of annual
budget during a `meeting of vice chancellors of all varsities of Pakistan, with
HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman in the chair.
He said heads of all
universities expressed their concern over 4.5 percent cut in their annual
budgets by the Finance Department. He added that all universities would suffer
huge financial losses if the authorities did not withdraw the decision of
cutting their annual budgets. To a question, he said that so far the current
financial position of the Gomal University was sound, adding that work on
several developmental projects, including students facilitation centre, shopping
points, big halls and digital libraries, was underway.
The vice
chancellor said that the university administration had acquired three new buses
and an ambulance to ensure maximum facilitation of students and staff.
To
a question about problems being faced students at hostels, he said a new hostel
comprising of 200 beds would be completed within the next couple of
months.
Dr Farid Khan also said the Gomal University had set up a new
common centre (guesthouse) using its own resources. He hoped the HEC would soon
approve the request of Gomal University management for the grant of Rs 50 crores
for completion of some projects.
Asked about law and order on campus,
Prof Farid Khan said a police station would soon be set up at the Gomal
University campus, for which a summary had been forwarded to the NWFP governor.
He thanked HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman and Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai
for paying heed to the problems of the university and grant of funds for its
