HEC develops quality assurance programme
Islamabad, Dec 15, 2007: The Quality Assurance Programme of the Higher Education
Commission (HEC) is developed and executed to raise standard of higher education
similar to international standard, said Dr Abdul Rauf, national professor.
He stated this while addressing the 13th meeting of Quality assurance
Committee in HEC.
The Quality Assurance Committee provides guideline for
all the policy decisions and initiative on quality assurance, such as M Phil/Phd
affiliation guidelines, institutional ranking equivalence VCs selection
criteria. The meeting deliberated upon progress of Quality Assurance Agency and
Quality Enhancement cell in detail. The preparation of Assessment, PhD review
process and affiliation guidelines were appreciated by the committee.
The
meeting unanimously decided that a crop variety developed by a faculty member be
equated with minimum four publications in HEC recognised journals for the
purpose of promotions of the faculty members etc. This was decided to encourage
faculty members for research and development, which is one of the priorities of
HEC. Criteria for department wise ranking of universities for which a special
meeting of the Quality Assurance Committee is to be held in January, 2008.
Previously HEC ranked only institutes but to improve departments it was decided
to discuss in detail, in exclusively one separate meeting to prepare
suggestion/recommendation for department wise ranking criteria. The News
