HEC launches research support programme
Islamabad, Dec 06, 2007: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched an International
Research Support Initiative Programme (IRSIP) to provide researchers with an
opportunity for improving their skills and knowledge.
The IRSIP is a six
months research fellow programme to the Pakistani scholars studying for PhDs in
HEC-recognized universities for continuing any scientific impact of their
doctoral research at renewed institutes laboratories of the world.
Since
inception 400 fellowships have been awarded under this programme to scholars of
different universities. Ninety five percent of the scholars are working in the
best institutes of USA and UK.
Seventy per cent scholars have returned
after completion of their tenure abroad. There are more than 150 PhDs students
currently conducting their research under this programme abroad. On average each
of the recipients has been able to publish at least one research paper in
renowned international journals.
This has resulted in almost 100 per cent
increase in the international research papers published from Pakistan. In
addition to this, scholars and researchers enjoy the opportunity to participate
in different international conferences and workshops which enables them to gain
and share knowledge in their area of research.
FBISE holds Urdu debate
Islamabad: On the third day of Academic Week Urdu Debate was held Wednesday among the students of schools affiliated
with Federal Board of Intermediate Education (FBISE) at SSC level.Dr. Jamal
Nasir, president of Green Task Force, Islamabad was the chief guest. Sundas
Yousaf of Bahria College M. T. Khan Road NORE, Karachi, Ahmad Ayaz Noor of Fauji
Foundation College for Boys, New Lalazar, Rawalpindi, Madhia Rubab of Paramount
Public High School, Attock, secured first, second and third position
respectively. In his address, the chief guest Dr. Jamal Nasir, spoke high of the
performance of the participants. He stressed that the acquisition of knowledge
in its true spirit brings a genuine and positive change in the attitude of the
students through the process of learning. Urdu debate at HSSC level will be held
today (Thursday). The News
